POSITION SUMMARY:
The Learning & Development Instructional Designer role at Ocean State Job Lot ("OSJL" and "Company") plays a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the organization's learning initiatives. This role's primary responsibility is to collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to design, develop, and implement engaging and effective learning solutions. Leveraging expertise in instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and multimedia tools, this role will create training materials that cater to diverse learning styles and organizational needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Needs Analysis: Conduct rigorous needs assessments to meticulously identify knowledge and skill gaps, engaging closely with stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of learning objectives and desired performance outcomes. Utilize a strategic approach to align organizational priorities with the identified learning needs.
    • Curriculum Design: Craft comprehensive, learner-centric curriculum designs that transcend traditional boundaries. Integrate cutting-edge instructional strategies rooted in adult learning principles, ensuring seamless alignment with organizational goals. Develop curriculum frameworks that not only address current needs but also anticipate future skill requirements and industry trends.
  • Content Development: Innovate and meticulously design instructional materials, encompassing dynamic e-learning modules, engaging virtual instructor-led training ("vILT") and instructor-led training materials, robust job aids, and multimedia assets. Tailor content to accommodate diverse learning methods, fostering an inclusive and effective learning experience for all participants. Ability to storyboard and partner with videographers to film and create eLearning content.
    • Technology Integration: Maintain a proactive stance in monitoring emerging educational technologies, integrating them judiciously into learning designs. Harness the power of technology to amplify engagement and effectiveness, ensuring that learning solutions remain at the forefront of industry advancements.
    • Collaboration: Forge collaborative partnerships with subject matter experts, facilitators, and stakeholders to facilitate a holistic approach to content development. Actively participate in information gathering, content validation, and accuracy assurance processes, promoting a culture of shared expertise and knowledge exchange. Partner closely with Learning and Development Facilitator(s), and other members of the HR Team, to conduct teach-back sessions, thorough dry runs, and effective program piloting. Ensure a seamless execution of vILT and instructor-led training programs, focusing on enhancing instructional delivery and content effectiveness.
  • Evaluation and Feedback: Implement robust evaluation strategies to quantifiably measure the impact and effectiveness of learning programs. Solicit detailed feedback from facilitators, participants and stakeholders, employing data-driven insights to iteratively enhance instructional content and delivery methods for continuous improvement.
  • Project Management: Exhibit adept project management skills to seamlessly oversee multiple projects concurrently. Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality learning solutions while meticulously adhering to budget constraints. Foster a results-driven environment that emphasizes efficiency, collaboration, and excellence in project execution.
  • Learning Management System ("LMS"): Demonstrate proficiency in navigating and leveraging LMS platforms. In partnership with the Learning & Development Specialist, effectively upload, manage, and organize training content, while utilizing LMS capabilities to track learner progress and generate insightful reports that inform decision-making and program refinement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Maintain a proactive stance in staying abreast of dynamic industry trends, best practices, and innovations within instructional design and adult learning. Incorporate these insights into the learning ecosystem to consistently elevate the quality, relevance, and impact of learning programs, ensuring organizational competitiveness and adaptability.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's, or Master's degree, in Instructional Design, or combined Instructional Design Certifications and work as an Instructional Designer is required.
  • 2 or more years of experience in Instructional Design in a corporate environment is preferred.
  • Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in instructional design and curriculum development.
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools and multimedia software.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Must possess position-critical skills: communication, consultation, performance evaluation, relationship management, presentation, and performance analysis.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively instill trust and respect to foster collaboration with a broad range of personalities and roles.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and other training delivery platforms.
  • Proficient knowledge of learning theories, ADDIE and/or SAM instructional design models, accessibility, usability, and experience design, information design and communications, and emerging learning technology.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, clean driving record and auto insurance.
  • Proficient in Google platforms (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Hybrid work (minimum 3 days in office): Work may be completed outside of the Company locations. The role is responsible for setting up a professional and ergonomically safe work environment and to be available during working hours. While working remotely, the role will be required to have reliable Internet connection.
  • Travel Percentage: up to 40% as needed by work initiatives.
  • Works primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard
    potential.
  • Works in an office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience.
