The Learning Acceleration Specialist (LAS) holds the keys to unlocking teachers’ and students’ potential. Guided by the LAS, teachers and schools will increase their capacity to identify and address learning gaps, shift mindsets toward mastery, and ensure that all students’ urgent need to engage in appropriate grade-level learning is met.
About Us
The Office of the Maricopa County School Superintendent is led by the Elected Superintendent. The office is statutorily responsible to provide services supporting school governing board elections, bond and override elections, appointments, school finance, and maintain homeschool and private school records. The superintendent leverages the office to strengthen teacher voice, increase respect for the education profession, and create resources that expand the capacity of teachers, administrators, and support staff. The superintendent also oversees the Maricopa County accommodation district.

We Require
  • 3+ years of effective classroom teaching
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Master’s Degree in education or related field
  • 5+ years of effective classroom teaching
Job Contributions
  • Co-plan and co-teach with classroom educators to develop teacher capacity to implement Learning Acceleration strategies including instructional scaffolding and formative assessment
  • Partner with teachers for effective student needs analysis, standards implementation, and lesson design
  • Conduct student needs analysis used to identify achievement strengths and high-priority areas for school-wide professional development
  • Design and facilitate professional development, adjusting support for teachers based on need
  • Establish and maintain trusting relationships that promote learning and risk-taking with students and teachers
  • Develop and implement efficient management practices (planning, scheduling, communication) that produce quality student-centered coaching cycles
  • Maintain accurate and timely results-based coaching logs
  • Lead honest and challenging conversations with internal and external stakeholders
Working Conditions
  • This position will work extensively in a classroom setting with considerable interactions with teachers and students.
  • Standing, talking, hearing, walking, and sitting.
  • The employee must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel or reach; employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Traveling to assigned school sites and the Maricopa County School Superintendent’s Office is a requirement of this position.
