What Warehouse Operations contributes to Cardinal Health
Warehouse Operations is responsible for performing/controlling a combination of manual or automated tasks necessary for the receipt, storage, and shipment of product. This may include functions of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, staging, transporting, storage, delivery, etc. Also responsible for the efficient flow of products from the point of product receipt from vendors to the shipment of products (via prescribed service parameters) to a variety of internal and external customers.
What is expected of this role
- Demonstrates multi-function expertise and leadership skills to assign work, monitor area performance and suggest process improvement
- Accurately and efficiently performs several operational tasks, including trouble shooting and research
- Operates multiple types of material handling/ packaging/ warehouse equipment
- Performs several or specialized warehouse operations functions within the operating guidelines of the facility
- Identifies and presents process improvements for consideration and implementation
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills to various levels within the organization
- New hire orientation and Environmental Health and Safety Support
- Applies extensive knowledge and company policies to complete a wide range of assignments
- Demonstrates expert understanding of all levels of the job family and has thorough knowledge of jobs outside area of responsibility
- Takes the lead in effectively applying new processes and skills in accomplishing assignments
- May provide technical guidance and training to others
- Maintains appropriate licenses, training and certifications
- Works on complex problems that require independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issue
- Makes recommendation for new or revised processes and has a role on the implementation
- Adheres to all quality guidelines
- Works with minimal degree of supervision. Has latitude to make decisions in exceptional circumstances within established guidelines
- Provides guidance to less experienced team members
- May have team leader responsibilities but does not formally supervise
Responsibilities
- Conduct new-hire orientation
- Facilitate warehouse and environmental health and safety training
- Temperature monitoring
- Manage safety performance indicators
- Ensuring that Cardinal Health's principles, policies and procedures are consistently practiced
- Leading and motivating the warehouse worker team to achieve productivity and quality goals.
- Coordinating workflow to accomplish overall business objectives (i.e, pick, pack and ship on time and accurately, cycle counts, returns and clean-up)
- Filling-in for others and performing functional tasks (i.e., stock, label totes) daily where/when necessary
- Handling general employee inquiries and solves routine problems within scope of the position, referring more complex problems to the next level supervisor
- Maintaining positive employee relations
- Promoting team environment and facilitates process improvement
- Supporting the supervisor by assisting the monitoring of attendance/tardiness and provides input for performance appraisals of warehouse employees
- Working closely with other leads and supervisors within the facility to promote teamwork
- Providing assistance in the training and development of new hires and retraining of other employees
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and follow up skills required
- 2-4 years experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft office
- Good written communication skills
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Computer experience using Windows or Manhattan systems
- Experience in a supervisory or lead worker position is beneficial
- Ability to handle multiple projects at a time while meeting deadlines
- Ability to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to frequently read written documents and use a computer monitor screen frequently
