Form of workResponsible for the training and inspection of all fleet vehicles. Provides efficient, timely, and safe vehicular transports to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Administer CDL training program. Responsible for the safety education, accident prevention, loss control, and regulatory compliance. Coordinates training activities to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and University policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Instruct and monitor new CDL drivers in the proper use and performance of shuttle vehicles. Provides re-training of CDL drivers when necessary.
- Maintain records and documentation to comply with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA).
- Practices defensive driving techniques; such as, keeping alert for actions of other drivers and not driving aggressively or acting aggressively towards other drivers or pedestrians.
- Follows all local and state safety regulations, laws, and standards. All driving regulations are followed; such as, coming to a complete stop at stop signs and red traffic lights, all turns and lane changes are signaled appropriately, and speed is no greater than posted or safe for existing conditions. Use of mobile devices are prohibited while driving.
- Adheres to shuttle schedules, routes, maps, and directions.
- Assists patients, staff, and visitors when boarding or exiting shuttles.
- Physical conditions or medications that affect driving ability are reported immediately.
- Employee arrives at work rested and alert; if working a second job, ensures a proper rest period before reporting to drive.
- Patients and visitors are given necessary assistance getting in and out of the vehicle, providing step stool, wheelchairs or other assistance as appropriate.
- Maintains vehicle, including exterior, keeping the vehicle clean and presentable.
- Performs pre-trip inspections and general vehicle maintenance (fuel is refilled as necessary, clean windows and windshields, keep vehicle clean of debris and clutter).
- Reports vehicle maintenance issues (vehicles are inspected of operational problems at the beginning of the shift).
- Complete documentation (vehicle checklist, fuel sheet, and shuttle ridership log).
- Implement program of scheduled preventive and service maintenance for all fleet vehicles, inspecting tires and rims, and safety inspections as required.
- Record monthly vehicle mileage for fleet vehicles.
- Perform minor vehicle repairs on fleet vehicles.
- Order parts and ensure parts are received in a timely manner. Responsible for working with designated vendors to maintain vehicle operations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: 2 years relevant experience
License/Certification: CDL-P license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver AED Course required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires sitting for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling/standing, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive) and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs, 20 - 50lbs, 50 - 100lbs and > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
