POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Teacher holds primary responsibility for the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of the Excel Center’s instructional delivery. He/she will provide instructional leadership to Teachers, Student Support Services Specialists, and administrative support staff at The Excel Center. The Lead Teacher will work effectively across the organization to make certain that students are supported in a way to ensure success academically and with post-secondary goals. Essential functions include supervision and development of instructional staff, in-depth analysis of learning outcomes, review of content/curriculum, delivery of courses, and identifying ways to provide internal and external academic support for all students. This position is a leadership role and will require professionalism as well as an approachable team attitude.
This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision, and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Colorado. This is a full-time, year-round, in-person position at our school located in Aurora, CO. Applicants must reside in Colorado and work from the Aurora facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve education and career outcomes for all Excel Center students.
- Participate in the development of overall educational strategies for the Excel Center, including but not limited to design and implementation of curriculum and systems to assess student outcomes.
- Train, orient, and update instructional staff on course sequence, curricular systems, and key instructional issues.
- Assist teachers in the development of instructional strategies and intervention plans that support growth and increase achievement among struggling students.
- Assure compliance with the Colorado Department of Education Accountability Standards.
- Observe and coach instructors daily; contribute to Director evaluation using the proposed rubric.
- Ensure access to and participation in high-quality internal and external professional development for instructional staff.
- Teach at least one core class to model instructional excellence for staff.
- Work effectively across the organization to link ancillary academic services to students.
- Work in collaboration with the School Director and Supervisor of Student Support Services to execute effective course scheduling within the student information system (SIS).
- Create a High Culture of Achievement, Accountability, and Professionalism.
- Recognize and model that teachers are a prime factor in retaining students.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings related to this position.
- Assist with all data gathering and reporting for internal and external customers.
- Assist with ongoing outreach in the community to raise awareness of the Excel Center and assist with all recruitment efforts for students.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned regarding administration, planning, and coordinating.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in subject specialty required with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience post licensing, 3-5 years preferred. Master’s Degree highly desirable. Current Colorado Teaching License required. Current Colorado Secondary Administrator’s License preferred but not required. 2+ years working in classrooms and coaching teachers, preferably with high need students.
Proven Leadership: Leads, develops, and gets results for a team, department, and organization through qualities of integrity, accountability, empathy, humility, resilience, vision, influence, and positivity, ideally in a school leadership role managing professionals.
Communication Skills: Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world. Must have the ability to network with community partners and speak to large audiences. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Organizational Aptitude: Plans and attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing multiple tasks in an organized and timely fashion. Exhibits careful attention to detail and follow-through.
Technical Knowledge: Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office, as well as student information systems.
Informed Decision-Making: Identifies and comprehends issues, problems, and opportunities; compares data from different sources to draw conclusions; uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; takes action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.
Information Monitoring/Reporting/Design: Creates, collects, reviews, and maintains information to manage or improve the achievement of learning goals.
Adaptability: Maintains effectiveness when experiencing shifts in priorities; adjusts effectively while maintaining a positive learning environment.
Per contract requirements with vehicle insurance provider: Qualified candidates must be 21 years of age and have no major traffic violations for previous 3 years (for driving/insurance purposes). Must have reliable transportation; must also be able to operate company vehicle.
