Background Information:
Innovative Defense Technologies(IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to be based at our headquarters in Arlington, VA or office in Mt. Laurel, NJ.
Overview:
The ideal candidate will primarily be responsible for developing Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) solutions as an integrated member of the Missile Defense Agencies (MDA's) integrated Agile development team. The Lead Systems Engineer will also contribute to IDT's MBSE-based automated test and analysis capabilityfortactical systems and subsystems supporting DOD platforms such as Aegis and Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD).
All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance.
Responsibilities Include:
- Execute software life-cycle processes including requirements analysis, architecture definition, software design, code and test for the development of automated system testing capability
- Build and assess Systems Engineering and architecture models using MBSE methodologies
- Conduct MBSE-based reviews and technical assessments that inform key technical decisions (Internal and External Customer Sets)
- Assist IDT with MBSE knowledge, research, and prototyping to grow and evolve our MBSE discipline and projects
- Create and maintain SysML artifacts to model system structure and behavior
- Support requirements, interface, and architecture change management processes in a SysML model
- Work with small cross-site teams of software and/or Systems Engineers
- Identify and manage risk associated with technology development programs
- Support structured process improvement activities
- Prepare and deliver contractual deliverables
- Execute development efforts to cost and schedule targets
- Interface with customers for technical and programmatic items
- Support business capture and proposal development opportunities
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in engineering or related fields
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics
Required Skills:
- Ability to lead the logical and systematic conversion of customer or program requirements into solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Ability to work closely with Lead Developers, Program Managers, Chief Engineersto document, manage and communicate systems and software requirements
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering/Mode Based Software Development using SysML or UML
- Experience using Rhapsody and/or MagicDraw/Cameo (MagicDraw/Cameo preferred)
- Experience using architecture frameworks like DoDAF/UPDM/UAF
- Understanding of requirements management processes related to SysML approaches and artifacts
- Familiar with Agile development processes
- Ability to lead small teams
- Ability to interface with customers from both a technical and programmatic context
- Ability to convert vague customer requirements into a refined vision and detailed tasking for a technical team
- Ability to work onsite in a lab setting
- Ability to travel: 20%
Preferred Skills:
- Experience creating Plugins using a Modeling Tool's API (Rhapsody/MagicDraw/Cameo)
- Experience modeling Service Oriented Architect (SOA) systems using SysML/UML/SoaML
- Experience with DOORS or other requirements management tools
- System integration and test experience for complex software applications including experience with software testing tools (commercial or bespoke applications)
- Knowledge of Navy testing programs, practices, and assets
- Understanding of the US Missile Defense System (MDS) and familiarity with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) mission
- Experience with DOD or complex commercial software product development
- Experience with the development of processes and tools used to support analysis and test of product functionality and performance during development
