We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Software Engineer (Engineer 4, Software) in the Rate Management department. The Rate Management department is responsible for a suite of applications that range from the new modernized Pricing Maintenance application to Revenue Management products such as Big Data and PRISM, our rate strategy application. Together, our systems give EHI our competitive pricing edge in the Rental Car industry.   

 

The Engineer 4, Software in the Rate Management department will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation strategy for the next generation of Revenue Management applications - as part of the 1RM program. As an Engineer 4, Software, you will translate solution architecture and business requirements into solutions that align with our overall technology vision. In addition, you will be a subject matter expert across the entire department and will collaborate with engineers, architects, and leadership on the direction for new solutions. You must maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in addition to knowledge of business strategy and security – and apply all of these to the solutions you implement. You may also be asked to collaborate with leaders outside Rate Management to contribute to global IT technology strategies. You will be responsible for defining technical roadmaps and strategies that align with IT and Business needs. You will be responsible for designing, modifying, and developing complex code across various teams using applicable technology. You will be responsible for driving standards, ensuring code performance, and contributing to code reviews. You will also assist with the analysis and review of software requirements. Finally, to be successful in this role, you will also need to provide instruction and guidance to team members and influence and partner with other technologists and leaders across the organization. 

 

  • Maintains effective relationships with all levels of company management, internal and external customers that promotes understanding and produces results for both parties.  
  • Leads project planning; provides technical leadership to project teams and/or leads project teams within own area/department and across functional teams  
  • Takes an active role in applying advanced methods, theories, and research techniques to establish ongoing direction, specification, design, development and implementation of technology vision and strategy. 
  • Accurately scopes deliverables including dependencies, risks, and issues to ensure seamless delivery, technology effectiveness and security. 
  • Provides guidance and oversight on technical matters within a solution to ensure that the technologies are secure, interoperate and connect appropriately and support company vision and strategy. 
  • Collaborates with Architects and recommends adjustments to the architecture to improve the overall quality of a solution. 
  • Listens to and evaluates customer needs to determine and provide high quality solutions that align with customer expectations; Identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures others are aligned with customer expectations. 
  • Actively coaches, mentors, and teaches others; uses influence, expertise, and leadership to support other teams as they implement technology solutions. 
  • Protects our customers, our employees, and our brands by incorporating security and compliance in all decisions; ensures security policy and procedure requirements are met; continuously identifies opportunities for improving security and implements strategies to improve our security posture.  
  • Contributes to the development of strategic planning for the department and communicates clear, concise strategic vision

Required:

  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
  • Must be committed to incorporating security into all decisions and daily job responsibilities
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience (designing and developing large scale applications) 
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills and the ability to effectively defend ideas and solutions; produce business relevant presentations, convey complex information in a manner that is easily understood and actionable to both non-technical and technical leaders 
  • Professional experience identifying and gathering solution needs; performing risk analysis, defining architecture; acting and driving key stakeholder acceptance 
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, build and foster relationships, including coaching and mentoring architects, engineers, and business leaders 
  • Proven ability to operate in a highly autonomous fashion, repeatedly exercises exceptional, independent judgment, balances strategic against tactical planning 
  • Experience developing, documenting, and maintaining architectural blueprints 
  • Must demonstrate flexibility and agility related to critical thinking and making decisions with complex considerations as it relates to business implications 
  • Subject matter expert in multiple areas of responsibility; represents team within and outside own department  
  • Experience leading large scale application delivery and operations 
  • Expert in Java development 
  • Expert with service-oriented architecture and micro services 
  • Experience with frontend development technologies like React framework 
  • Experience with large scale data processing using Big Data technologies like Spark, Hadoop, Databricks, HDFS, HBASE, etc. 
  • Experience with cloud architectures and technologies like AWS and Azure 
  • Ability to stay up to date on industry trends, products, applications, technical service, market conditions, and competitive activities 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred
