Job Opening Summary

This position qualifies for additional duty compensation, specific to this position only, based on responsibility for an expanded scope of services concurrently encompassing UFHP, Shands Radiology and Shands Outpatient Financial Arrangements in the Shared Business Office at the UF Health Orthopaedic Institute. Ensures the financial integrity of the UF Health Physicians by facilitating and supervising established financial processes that enable and expedite the billing and collection of professional services in their assigned practice. Responsible for resolving complaints and issues, as well as patient relations. Provides problem resolution and direct supervision of assigned clerical staff, which includes scheduling staff, monitoring clinic flow, administering clinic policies, assigning/reassigning workload, providing input into an employee's performance evaluation, corrective actions, training, orienting new staff and participating in interviewing new staff. Facilitates excellent customer service and proficiently processes various clerical functions for patients of the UF Health Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Institute. Obtains physician orders; upgrades patient accounts in Epic; schedules new and return clinic appointments; schedules radiological procedures within UF Health Shands Hospital; and effectively communicates with providers, staff and patients. Posts charges in Epic and collects from the patient for UF Health Physicians and Shands. Protects the fiscal interest of the enterprise by reviewing orders for completeness and entering orders and other information following established criteria. Competent in using and keeping up-to-date on compliance procedures with a working knowledge of the compliance checking system. Proficient in the Epic system and has a working knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Job Opening Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of financial or medical practice experience required.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding preferred.
  • Four-year degree may substitute for two (2) years of financial/medical office experience.
  • Epic system knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Incumbent must be comfortable collecting payments and counseling patients regarding financial matters in a professional manner.
  • The ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, problem solve and function in a team environment are necessary attributes of the successful incumbent.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
