Form of workAbout the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) controlling access of vehicles, visitors, and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; 2) using automated systems to query and/or verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation; 3) safeguarding personnel, information, and/or property/critical assets in a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization; and 4) leading projects and/or employees. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
