Job Description
To be fully engaged in providing No Harm/ Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship, the Lead Pharmacist is responsible for supervising all pharmacy personnel in the facility. The pharmacy Lead Pharmacist ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal services, including monitoring patient drug therapies and providing drug information, while complying with the laws governing the practice of pharmacy.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Work diligently to increasingly engage, provide tools of engagement, and raise issues of engagement with direct reports.
  • Maintains all primary accountabilities of a pharmacist.
  • Attends orientation, education, and training programs. Reviews literature and other materials pertinent to the practice of pharmacy.
  • Completes all competency/skill assessment requirements (see attached competence assessment/skill list).
  • Meets on a regular basis with manager. Maintain engagement of direct reports, address issues of concerns, on a day to day basis across all shifts within the Pharmacy Department.
  • Establish a schedule for all pharmacists; arrange for schedule switches and PL, monitors workload statistics.
  • Rearrange staff in the day to make sure all areas are covered (IV, OR, OE, etc).Arranges for "as needed" schedules including for support staff for Buyer/warehouse and in the event of special projects, hurricanes, holidays and disaters.
  • Manages schedule in the event of "call-offs" and unforeseen schedule changes.
  • Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
  • Provides a mentor to new pharmacists during orientation and training.
  • Supervises and participates, when appropriate, in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department.
  • Assists with the development and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.
  • Reviews with Pharmacy Manager staff productivity, order entry accuracy and clinical engagement.
  • Identifies strengths and opportunities for growth.
  • Supervises and provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff.
  • Supervises and provides drug information to patients and their families.
  • Supervises and participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to the pharmacy, medical, nursing, and other staffs.
  • Supervises pharmacy personnel, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support personnel.
  • Assists with the development of job descriptions and performance standards. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance.
  • Performs essential duties of the pharmacy manager in his/her absence.
  • Assists with the development and maintains pharmacy services in collaboration with the associated department services.
  • Participates in committee/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy/Nursing.
  • Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with the staff members and within the community.
  • Maintains current pharmacy licensure.
  • Attends pharmacy staff meetings and reads pertinent email communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Lead Pharmacist.
  • Sustains the formulary by minimizing nonformulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
  • Supervises and provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners.
  • Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff, as needed.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Must be a graduate of a ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree.
  • Pharm D degree preferred.
  • Must have completed an internship of 2080 hours or equivalent internship program.
  • Must have a current Florida license.
  • 1 year minimum hospital pharmacist experience required.
  • 1 year pharmacist experience preferred.
  • Advanced degree and/or residency preferred.
  • Minimum of 40 hours per week, but hours may be long and irregular; includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
