Position Overview:
This position will be responsible for working directly with our business partners in BMS Re as well as multiple colleagues within IT (Global and US) in the capacity of a Lead or Senior Quality Assurance Engineer. The position is a hybrid role, skilled in both (re)insurance and information technology. The successful candidate will be required to work on projects, small change, and business as usual. This position will be a senior role and critical to the evolution of our change management capabilities in the US. The position will be focused on generating and delivering significant value through quality improvements, interacting with multiple teams (pods) within the US. The primary remit of this role is to ensure deliverables are of high quality, fit-for-purpose, and that issues are resolved on a priority basis quickly and efficiently. This position is a hands-on role and the candidate will also build strong relationships with all key stakeholders and other areas of IT in the US and UK.
Responsibilities
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Create and maintain detailed test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test summary reports.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure high-quality deliverables.
    • Conduct thorough testing (software and infrastructure) including functional, non-functional, regression, integration, and assist with user acceptance testing.
    • Identify and document defects, track and manage issues to resolution (triage), and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely resolution.
    • Document and communicate test results, metrics, and quality status to stakeholders and management.
    • Design and execute performance testing strategies to ensure scalability, reliability, and responsiveness.
    • Investigate and troubleshoot issues reported by customers or internal teams, providing timely resolution.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with team members to understand requirements and provide early input on testability aspects.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a quality culture of quality throughout US IT.
    • Participate in design and code reviews to provide quality insights and ensure testability of features.
    • Effectively communicate with stakeholders, including business analysts, developers, and project managers, to ensure a shared understanding of quality goals and priorities.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement in the testing processes.
    • Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends in software quality assurance.
  • Coaching and Mentoring:
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to team members instilling a sense of Quality with all work efforts.
    • Assist and contribute to UAT efforts enabling our users to structure and execute user acceptance testing efforts efficiently and effectively.
  • Risk and Compliance:
    • Conduct risk analysis to identify potential areas of concern and prioritize testing efforts accordingly.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and manage project risks related to quality.
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards, industry regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Other:
  • Must be able to demonstrate a hands-on, working knowledge of projects conforming to waterfall and agile (e.g., Scrum and Kanban).
  • Must have demonstrable experience in the end-to-end project lifecycle and production support.
  • Must be skilled in Azure DevOps including Azure Boards and Azure Test Plans.
  • Must have an agile mindset and willing to champion best practice and agile principles and practices.
  • Must have proven experience as a QA Engineer in the areas of business intelligence and reporting, software development, infrastructure projects, and IT services.
  • Operate as a liaison and facilitator between multiple parties (e.g., IT, end-users, and suppliers / vendors).
  • Adhere to company and regulatory policies, and procedures, together with mandatory training requirements.
  • Proactive collaboration with other areas of IT to remove obstacles and maintain progress.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the BMS Group IT Change Control process.

Education, Experience and Skills
  • Required:
    • Degree in an associated field of study or equivalent experience.
    • A minimum of 8 years' experience in Quality Assurance.
    • A minimum of 6 years' experience in Insurance or Reinsurance.
    • Proactive self-starter with an attention to detail, who takes pride in their work and can self-organize.
    • An ability to meet deadlines and display effective time management.
    • Troubleshooting, problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both written and verbal).
    • Must be collaborative and a team player with the desire to be part of a growing team.
    • A desire to help build a fun, collaborative, and professional work environment.
    • Adapts and responds well to change and has a desire to effect change.
    • Ability to apply critical thinking to day-to-day activities and work independently, build for the future, and know when to be strategic or tactical.

  • Preferred:
    • Experience working with Microsoft Azure.
    • Experience with test automation.
    • Ability and willingness to travel if needed.

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide marker range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary advanced to the desired candidate will be based on a number of factors, including geographic location and the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the desired candidate.
