Summary of Duties
Pay range: $42.45/hr - $61.98/hr
Works under the direction of a board certified radiologist and is directly responsible for the optimal completion of all procedures utilizing the magnetic resonance imaging scanner. Lead MRI Technologist ensures excellent customer service by maintaining staff competence and training on equipment, monitoring equipment needs, demands and usage. Facilitates communication between patients, staff and radiologists. May be assigned to a variety of hospital or clinic locations depending on the needs of the department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performed majority of the time - please start with the responsibilities that are the most time consuming:
• Begins and ends exams and documents appropriately in the electronic medical records.
• Mandatory participation in the stand-by rotation as required.
• Assists in providing care for moderate and deep sedation patients.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary should an emergency arise during moderate sedation and are able to recognize signs and symptoms.
• Maintains and updates procedure manual.
• Maintains a log of all patients, procedures, complications and pathology files, and system problems.
• Describes and applies the physics behind the MRI system.
• Performs quality control functions in MRI in accordance with department quality control process.
• Assists physicians as necessary.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of Fuji PACS and assists with PACS management.
• Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.
• Demonstrates the ability to change a protocol as needed without compromising image quality.
• Maintains appropriate supply levels.
• Assists in patient scheduling.
• Transports patients as necessary.
• Participates in in-service programs and continuing education.
• Responsible for keeping current on new technology and equipment.
• Involvement in capital budget for MRI equipment and staffing needs.
• Participates in scheduled staff/department meetings.
• Keeps all MRI personnel informed of new protocols and procedures.
• Liaison between nursing staff, physicians and office staff, service engineers, radiologists and MRI staff.
Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:
• Performs additional duties as requested by staff, radiologists, or imaging director.
• Assesses and assists in yearly competencies.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Required
• Registry with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) or other approved credentialing organization.
• Licensure with the State of Oregon.
• Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification.

• Working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

• Correctly and accurately operates magnetic field equipment under the direct supervision of a physician.
• Obtains and maintains proficiency in IV starts for contrast administration
• Follows policies for infection control; disposal of hazardous waste and sharps; use of personal protective equipment.
• Cares for patient in a safe and compassionate manner while in the MRI suite.
• Utilizes appropriate problem-solving techniques to resolve complaints, concerns or conflicts.
• Works and communicates in a positive and cooperative manner with management, supervisors, medical staff, co-workers, other healthcare workers, patients and their families.
• Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
Preferred
