The Lead Mechanic is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department. Serving as the working leader of the maintenance facility, the shop foreman is responsible for the coordination, scheduling and auditing of maintenance repairs for all motor coaches and company vehicles.
Job Responsibilities:

- Represents the All Aboard America! brand in a positive manner to all individuals; is an advocate for the Company.
- Supervises, schedules, and assigns work of Maintenance Team.
- Oversees the Electronic Vehicle Inspection Record (EVIR) system, ensuring repairs and defects are addressed in a timely manner.
- Schedules and administers fleet maintenance and assists in troubleshooting problems with vehicles and equipment.
- Ensures that mechanics are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and are motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Schedules the inspection of new coaches and coaches needing repair, arranges for scheduled and routine maintenance, documents types of repair needed, estimates time of completion, and coordinates road tests vehicles.
- Ensures all Company required paperwork is completed by all Team Members by the end of shift.
- Communicates with the Operations Department throughout the day in regards to vehicle needs and readiness.
- Inspects facilities and equipment including shop tools to ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations, as well as clean and efficient working conditions; and orders maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Inspects coaches for cleanliness, and orders corrective maintenance as needed.
- Consults with Bus Operators to get additional information regarding repairs when needed.
- Coordinates and communicates with vendors and other outside organizations in order to track warranty work and schedule coaches.
- Works with the Maintenance Administrator and Director of Maintenance to ensure that appropriate automotive and heavy-duty coach parts are ordered and stocked in sufficient quantity to ensure timely repair.
- Ensures all inventory controls are followed; all parts are charged and used accurately.
- Answers maintenance phone, responding to and/or facilitating response to any maintenance need/request.
- Responds to road failures in a timely manner.
- Holds on-call responsibility when needed.
- Ensures the working environment is clean throughout the shift; all areas must be clean/neat before Team Members go home.
- Completes continuing education and training as requested/required by Company.
- Follows all Company policies and procedures.
- Provides process/procedure improvement recommendations to Supervisor.
- Maintains a safe working environment at all times; reports any unsafe working condition to Supervisor immediately.
- Fulfills the role of Mechanic II as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of diesel engine repair experience required.
- Technical degree in diesel and industrial technology (or similar focus) preferred.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) inspection certification required.
- HVAC certification required.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and state/local Department of Transportation rules/regulations preferred.
- Proficiency in engine/transmission diagnostic software programs.
- Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement required.
- Excellent/professional written and oral communication skills required.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Successfully pass a background check.
- Rolling tool box and/or cart with tool kit required; must include the following:
- 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2" standard/shallow/deep drive socket sets, 3/8”-1 1/4” standard and 6mm-26mm metric combination wrench sets, wrenches, Allen wrench sets, torque wrench set, pliers, vise grips, files, screwdrivers, ball peen and rubber/plastic hammers, punch and chisel set, digital multi-meter, flash light, cordless drill/impact driver, drill bit set, extractor set, etc.

Additional Information
SCHEDULE:
Shop Foreman schedules vary. The Shop Forman must be available to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Little to no travel is expected.

Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member will work primarily in a maintenance facility setting and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
