JOB SUMMARY

This position contributes to elements’ success by overseeing the supervision of the host stand operations and responsibilities in order to ensure the highest quality standards are met. The Lead Host/Hostess is expected to be a ‘hands-on’ supervisor assisting management in training, scheduling, motivating, and spearheading communication with fellow team members. Leading the area, setting an example of committed guest service and follow through. Focus on living the Sanctuary Commitments and vision of Where Pride and Compassion Meet, critical to the success of this position as a Sanctuary community member.


JOB FUNCTIONS

Note: the following duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive

  • Provide a smile and friendly greeting for all guests, utilize guest's name as soon as possible, ensure great care is taken when entering reservation and detailed notes when and where applicable. Communicate with manager any special requests or need of follow up.
  • Support the management of seating charts and printing of daily OpenTable guest notes. Relay pertinent information regarding guest requests to servers and management at pre-shift.
  • Ensure all hostess/hosts provide warm welcomes and fond farewells to each guest.
  • Print and monitor supply of restaurant menus and wine lists for all meal periods. Inspect menus for cleanliness and crispness and change out when necessary.
  • Execute the floor plan, maintain accurate seating chart and cover tally, direct host staff during service.
  • Walk through dining area and jade bar, note and correct any irregularities (lights burned out, furniture, etc.). Check dining room and floors for cleanliness and take actions where needed.
  • Responsible for daily communication and coordination of comp payments, tacking slips and third party payments.
  • Answer phones with knowledge of the operation of the resort and restaurant and/or direct the guests for further assistance.
  • Actively listen and respond positively to guest questions, concerns, and to resolve issues, show compassion and build trust.
  • Acknowledge and thank exiting guests, ask them to return, ask about their dining experience and follow through with the manager with any guest issues.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and supplemental training sessions.
  • Assist with training of new host/hostess staff.
  • Support staff performance, work along-side FOH Restaurant Manager in the development of action plans for success.
  • Maintain and update communication book with group resume, holiday menus and information, upcoming events and resort daily activities etc.
  • Be familiar with emergency safety measures.
  • Assist management to ensure that hourly employees have the necessary resources to effectively perform their jobs (e.g., supplies, equipment, and inventory).
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by effective communication to entire team.
  • Lead by example in areas of correct verbiage and proactive hospitality skills.
  • Ensure understanding, compliance and leading by example in accordance to the Sanctuary Commitments.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Restaurant Manager and/or Assistant Manager.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Due to constant public contact, grooming is a factor of the utmost importance and must adhere to appearance code guidelines as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations and fine dining etiquette.
  • Must enjoy extensive guest and employee contact.
  • Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry and/or transport up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to remain on feet for a prolonged period of time and to escort guests.
  • Good communication essential with ability to listen effectively, to speak and write English clearly.
  • Must be a motivated self starter that takes the initiative to identify and undertake projects.
  • Self-motivated, organized, fast and even-tempered.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task a must.
  • Pleasant personality to effectively deal with guests.
  • Ability to identify, address and resolve conflict.
  • Maintain good safety habits and report unsafe or hazardous conditions to Security.
  • Promote excellent guest relations while living the Sanctuary Commitments.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent

Current Food Handler’s Card.

Related Work Experience

Prior experience in restaurant operations required.

Prior experience with Open Table preferred.

Experience with hospitality and customer service required.
