In the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL), we believe in the power of science to solve real problems and drive new product and service innovations for all athletes*.
The NSRL is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. We deliver validated insights and innovative capabilities to drive the future of Nike products and services. The NSRL is fueled by its Research Operations team, which focuses on building relationships with Athletes and unlocking the physical and digital potential of the lab. This position reports into the Facilities and Engineering team within the Research Operations function.
At our World Headquarters, the Sport Research Lab within the LeBron James Innovation Center is an 84,000 square foot facility, where Athletes* can play, train, and recover. Outside Oregon, we will be expanding our global footprint across the world.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking a curious and determined NSRL Lead Engineer to join our team, an engineer with skills across mechanical and electrical systems. Your hands-on experiences with troubleshooting and lab equipment integration will be the foundation for the strategies you create to maintain and build new capabilities lab setting. A track-record of self-directed learning and collaborative problem-solving is essential. Part of your role will be landscaping and researching current industry trends and new technologies that become available. You will also be responsible for managing large, and complex projects including facilities, construction, equipment installation and more.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
If this is you, you will be assigned to multiple concurrent programs and act as a liaison to specify, design, build/purchase, and install new equipment through both internal and external partners. You will actively seek to understand and interpret program and researcher objectives and you will be responsible for translating those objectives into equipment requirements and developing solutions to meet those needs through an iterative, collaborative, and data-driven approach. After you validate and train others on the new systems, you will continue to support the teams by troubleshooting and upgrading the systems in development. Throughout this journey you will leverage functional processes and best-practices and identify improvements to these tools that can enable the team to work more efficiently.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
You will be working in a world-class sports Research Lab with team for maintaining and supporting the research on a daily basis. You'll be responsible for building relationships and managing our external strategic partners. Collaborating with these functions and standing-up new capabilities in Innovation rewards system-based thinking and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Includes shipping and handling sensitive equipment. Inventory management of lab supplies.
WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or other technical degree with experience to related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
  • 7+ years of applied experience in research, manufacturing, design, or innovation.
  • Demonstrated track-record as a self-directed learner.
  • Experience troubleshooting, designing, procuring, and building complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with purchasing custom and commercialized capital equipment.
  • Experience with data collection systems, creating, improving and calibration.
  • Possess a detailed and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex topics and concepts to a wide and diverse technical and non-technical audience.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.
  • Experience with fabricating proof of concept and prototype devices including hand tools, machining, 3D printing.
  • Experience programming microcomputers and microcontrollers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino) a plus.
  • Experience with software programming languages including Python and/or Labview.
  • Experience as a technical lead within a multi-disciplinary team that includes vendors, integrators, and technicians.
  • Experience documenting and training others to use new tools and equipment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to dream, think, solve, and grow.
