Job description

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The Lead Direct Support Professional sets the example to all Direct Support Professional staff of what values look like in practice, modeling the highest level of person-centered support and providing a continuity of quality in therapeutic relationships for all individuals supported.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Ensure NC licensure standards and Medicaid guidelines are followed.
  • Collaborate with Service Coordinator to discuss critical team information.
  • Monitor supplies and forms and restock as needed.
  • Ensure medications are ordered/received and verify physician orders/MARs are correct and current.
  • Arrange and assist persons supported to medical appointments.
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed and properly uploaded (Report of Health Services, Physician’s Orders, FL2s, et. al.).
  • Maintain accurate Medical Records for individuals supported.
  • Collect all receipts and submit them to the Finance Department. Review allocations and ensure budgets are being met. Forward required documentation to finance department in a timely manner.
  • Monitor finances and assist persons supported with budgeting. Ensure accounting of funds form, budget sheets, receipts, bank statements are correct and current with all monies accounted for.
  • Provide training related to service specific job functions, guidance, and coaching to DSP team members providing services, licensure standards and guidelines.
  • Model therapeutic relationship between individuals supported and team members.
  • Forward necessary mail to LCE office/Service Coordinator.
  • Report needed repairs in a timely manner.
  • Complete Accident/Incident Reporting properly and timely.
  • Assist person supported in daily living and personal care tasks as needed, including meal preparation and offering support around choosing nutritional, well-balanced meals.
  • Administer medication and document according to guidelines.
  • Provide opportunities and choices for community participation for all individuals supported.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Ensure the promotion and protection of individual human rights; ensure confidentiality of any information related to persons receiving residential supports; ensure that individuals keep and maintain personal possessions; ensure that persons are free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, or punishment.
  • Provide encouragement to individuals to achieve specific skills or behaviors in independent living, socialization, meal preparation, budgeting, money management, and recreation and leisure activities.
  • Monitor the overall health and safety of the individuals served including providing information to medical professionals (psychiatrists, general practitioners, specialists, etc.). Assuring that issues and concerns about health and safety are brought to the attention of team members when they arise; and that staff are communicated with regarding treatments and interventions.
  • Attend team meetings and staff training as requested.
  • Communicate effectively and follow instructions, both oral and written.
  • Maintain program standards as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Use a person-centered approach to providing services, and demonstrate effective interactions, training techniques, and interventions for other support team members.
  • Turn in billing and all other required paperwork on time.
  • Demonstrate/model effective interactions, training techniques, and interventions.
  • Other duties as assigned by Service Coordinator, Operations Director, HR Director or Executive Director.
  • Monitor the daily activities of staff and ensure they are completing responsibilities efficiently.
  • Consult with the Service Coordinator regarding staff performance concerns.
  • Communicate with Team Coordinator regarding staffing. Guide Direct Support Professional team members to Team Coordinator for staffing needs and change requests.
  • Accuracy is essential in all aspects of this work. Accuracy and timeliness in record keeping is critical to the agency adhering to state licensure to avoid penalties and paybacks.
  • Errors in judgment or delay of efforts could result in consequences with licensure and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The required minimum qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Expert proficiency in crisis management
  • 1-2 years full-time experience in a related human service field
  • Valid NC driver’s license, acceptable driving record and appropriate automobile insurance
  • Satisfactory background check and Healthcare Personnel Registry report
  • Proficient and confident with applicable software, hardware, and technology
  • Competency in the following areas: technical knowledge, cultural competency and awareness, analytical skills, decision-making, interpersonal skills, communication skills, clinical skills, person-centered practices, evaluation and observation, crisis prevention and intervention, professionalism and ethics, community living skills and supports, health and wellness, community inclusion and networking, empowerment and advocacy, safety, education, training, and self-development
