This is a hybrid remote/in-person position - you will be required to come into the office when needed such as for: Certain meetings and events, client requests or as directed by the Executive VP as necessary.

The Lead System Design Engineer is a senior level position within Day Wireless Design Engineering group. The position will work on and help manage Day Wireless biggest, most complex projects and manage our most important customer accounts from the DAS engineering stand point. They will report and work closely with Director of Engineering and Presales to ensure synergy and process efficiency is achieved for the assigned accounts and/or large projects.

This individual will also become involved at the very inception and will remain actively involved throughout the entire lifecycle for all big projects and be customer facing with our important clients. Ability to communicate very effectively on all levels is a must. This individual must also be knowledgeable in the various DAS public safety and carriers’ design requirements and all of the major OEM’s equipment as well as various fire code requirements applicable to various jurisdictions throughout company’s area of service.

Essential functions:

  • Presale estimation and post-sale DAS Project design with iBWave and/or other means; The position will be working on our most complex and large value DAS projects
  • Develop detailed system descriptions along with the BOMs (Bill of Materials)
  • Work with the DAS Engineering Design Manager and Director of Engineering to effectively utilize overall engineering teams resources which will assist Lead System Design Engineer with select customer accounts in terms of design and engineering of DAS projects
  • Manage, adjust, monitor and improve processes specific to engineering/design for DWSs biggest customer accounts
  • Provide remote assistance to our Service teams during project implementations; Assistance includes oversight of DAS/BDA commissioning, testing and optimization to assure the newly installed system has met internal and external specifications
  • Read and analyze construction drawings and blueprints and design constructible DAS projects
  • Ensure public safety DAS designs follow local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) and national codes (NFPA); Read and analyze code requirements
  • Work with our proposal team to develop accurate DAS quotes and proposals and respond to complex RFPs
  • Mentor and train new and existing members of our DAS Design Team as assigned
  • Manage one or two direct reports which are assigned to Day Wireless biggest customer accounts where the company is performing managed services for hire and require full time Design Engineers
  • Attend occasional customer meetings including travel to project locations (only OR, WA or CA)

Desired Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six (6) years in-building DAS design and customer facing experience cellular and public safety; Other disciplines design and management experience will be considered based on similarity to in-building wireless design and overall ability
  • Bachelor Degree, preferably in Electronics engineering or Telecommunications engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science; Masters Degree in those disciplines is preferred or equivalent experience
  • iBwave Certification and proficiency with the software
  • RF experience and/or knowledge is a must! General RF theory and radio signal propagation expertise
  • 5+ years experience with public safety and cellular DAS design
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are required
  • Knowledge and experience with typical public safety (VHF/UHF/700/800/900) and cellular frequency bands/carriers and associated specifics of each
  • Ability to concentrate on highly complex material through surrounding distractions and interruptions while working on multiple projects and directing others
  • Leading DAS manufacturer certifications and familiarity are a must
  • Extremely comfortable in a fast-paced environment that requires excellent time-management and the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work well under pressure and multitask. Individual must also be able to prioritize multiple high priority projects, work schedule and workload.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The position might have one or two direct reports to work almost exclusively on select large customer accounts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Licenses, Certifications: PE (Professional Engineer) in OR, CA and WA
