JOB POSITION: Lead Data Scientist
LOCATION: 7000 Target Parkway North, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445
DUTIES: Develop artificial intelligence models and algorithms for Target's retail business; build and deploy machine learning, deep learning and statistical models using Python, TensorFlow, Hadoop, Hive, Oozie and Spark to generate item-pair similarities to support producing accurate demand forecasts for new items in Target physical and digital retail; perform various statistical ad hoc analysis, deep dives and data visualizations using SQL and Python to optimize Target's demand forecast for all items, identify system defects, minimize stockouts and overstock while improving guest experience; with Target AI, develop artificial intelligence models and algorithms for our retail business; work closely with partner team Data Scientists and Merch business partners to continuously learn more about our business and particularly develop an understanding of the various processes we have in play; partner with ML Engineers and Applied Scientists on our partner teams to build solutions for business needs including development, deployment, and maintenance of algorithms and models at scale; change the way demand forecasting and pricing is originated in retail in Target AI; create our next generation demand and pricing platform; write code for math/stats models to evaluate demand for millions of items and compute prices; apply experience deploying large scale models and algorithms and expertise in linear algebra, statistics, information theory and related mathematical concepts; work in deep learning, dynamic programming and related areas in both theory and practice; partner with business users and other scientists / engineers to build a framework allowing us to develop a new platform to more efficiently estimate demand and price on the fly; apply proficiency with Python, C++, Java, Scala, and equivalent programming languages; impact our business by improving our ability to serve retail guests and by directly reducing compute cost through more efficient algorithms; and coordinate the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues in our software and the broader infrastructure. Tools/technologies used: Python, R, TensorFlow, Hadoop, Tableau, Hive, Oozie, Spark, SQL, and R-Shiny. May telecommute from any location in the U.S.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master's degree in Data Science or Business Analytics and at least four (4) years of experience in statistical analysis (any title) utilizing machine learning, optimizing supply chain issues, building and deploying statistical and machine learning models to forecast demand, and developing business intelligence metrics for e-commerce, and using Python, R, SQL, Tableau, R-Shiny, and Spark.
