Job description

This is a hybrid role. The first three months are full time in the office.
Eversource is looking for a Lead Data Engineerlocated in Hartford, CT, Westwood, MA, or Manchester, NH. This individual will work closely with key electric business stakeholders to assess engineering performance and analyze data while ensuring alignment with the strategic vision of the leadership team. Subsequently, this individual evaluates, recommends, and implements technology solutions with help of data analytics to ensure consistency and quality of engineering products and processes at Eversource, resolve deficiencies, enhance performance, and facilitate collaboration among stakeholders.
The Lead Data Engineer enhances existing metric trackers as well as builds new applications, metric trackers, and data products to provide visibility into various areas such as Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Major Projects, Compliance, etc. This individual also liaises with IT supporting the strategic Eversource data platform vision and shares accountability with peers in the IT, GIS, Grid Modernization, Distribution Engineering, and System Operations organizations.
This person will work in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes records to ensure they are maintained in accordance with NERC, NPCC, and ISO NE standards.
  • Supports and facilitates the development of data sharing and data visibility products by using engineering data.
  • Provides input into the modernization, improvement, and standardization of engineering data management practices and processes across Eversource's three state service territory.
  • Leads efforts related to the creation of engineering data management platforms, scripts and/or databases.
  • Maintains and provides upkeep support services for any new and existing tracking database or data management efforts.
  • Performs internal analysis using engineering data to provide additional insight into engineering processes and performance trends. Uses engineering data to identify success and proactively identify potential areas of concern to allow implementation to make mid-course corrections.
  • Responds to regulatory or stakeholder requests/inquiries related to data, data management, data platforms, and/or databases.
  • Standardizes engineering data - creates consistency in measure definitions and the granularity at which regulatory compliance and data processes are tracked.
  • Collaborates across Eversource and the wider engineering and operational organization to ensure that internal and external reports are using a consistent source of data.
  • Collaborates with other supervisors and managers, as well as other stakeholders, regarding data management policies.
  • Identifies and helps to remediate root causes of data issues that may be encountered.
  • Work includes data entry, data manipulation, data analysis, technical writing, editing, planning, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, designing, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presenting.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
  • Extensive knowledge of data management best practices.
  • Requires exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use software applications (e.g., Excel, Access, or Power BI).
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., SQL, R, or Python). Experience with SQL is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the management and configuring of standard utility software (e.g., Powerbase, CASCADE, Maximo, etc.) is preferred.
  • Automation experience is preferred.

Education:
  • A bachelor's or master's Degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering) is required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of eight years of related experience is required.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $137,340.00 to $152,600.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
