Job Description:
The Lead Threat Engineer is a new role that will focus on leading offensive security capabilities, including threat modeling and detections, conducting red team and purple team exercises, and overall complementing Cyber Defensive capabilities to keep enterprise applications, services, and data secure.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Partner with existing security teams to understand current threat detection and logging capabilities and enhance / expand capabilities within enterprise applications, infrastructure, and Cloud environments.
  • Operationalize new detections with the MSSP and internal Security Operations Center
  • Partner with key internal customers such as enterprise applications, enterprise architecture, and DevOps teams to threat model and design detections for Cox Enterprises apps and services.
  • Co-lead red and purple team exercises against critical systems to stay ahead of evolving threats and drive the continuous improvement.
  • Perform internal threat hunting exercises to identify gaps in security posture
  • Supplement and support peers to improve detections and other daily cyber defense work
  • Contribute to the development of playbooks for cyber security incidents.
  • Review process and procedure used by security operations and drive continuous improvement.
  • Acts as a key participant in critical security incident response (IR), and be able to lead response activities as a security incident manager (SIM)
  • Maintain working knowledge of advanced Threat Engineering and detection as the industry evolves.
  • Perform other duties as expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in a technology related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ year minimum of progressive experience in information technology, cyber security, application support, or applications development.
  • Must possess a proven track record as an accomplished member of a cybersecurity program.
  • Possess one or more current industry certifications relevant to the job, i.e. CISSP, CISM, CEH, CIH or SANS certifications.
  • In-depth understanding of multiple security disciplines and technologies to offer solutions for a complex heterogeneous environment.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills demonstrated across broad group of technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills and Behaviors:
  • Must have strong working knowledge of industry-leading security technologies and platforms.
  • Must have working, practical knowledge of ethical hacking tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Experience using scripting languages for security purposes. (Investigations, Automation, Threat Hunting, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure in dealing with incident response situations.
  • Leverage empathy and professionalism when working with customers, stakeholders, and, impacted teams.
  • Distill and clearly communicate technical security concepts to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to respond to security incidents
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Be collaborative, yet persistent
