Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe - What started off as a series of weekend breakfast pop-ups at Rustic Canyon turned into this Santa Monica Farmers’ Market-inspired bakery, cafe and marketplace that debuted in February 2009.  Pastry Chef/Partner Laurel Almerinda keeps the pastry case overflowing with biscuits, tarts and doughnuts, and so much more, while the kitchen team whips up an all-day breakfast and lunch menu of egg dishes, salads, sandwiches and dinner-friendly take & bake items. The marketplace contains the best, organic fruits & vegetables from the nearby farmers’ market, jars of salad dressing, salsa & pesto, housemade baking mixes, pantry items from our favorite artisans, plus more.  Zoe, Josh and Laurel also published a cookbook in 2014 called Huckleberry: Stories, Secrets and Recipes from our Kitchen. It features over 115 simple recipes for our signature pastries and sweet/savory breakfast dishes.

The front of house interacts with the guests to ensure they have a great dining experience. Front of house is responsible for positive guest interactions while serving guests in a friendly and efficient manner. At all times, counter staff is expected to be attentive to our guest needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, important and relaxed.

Duties and responsibilities 

As front of house, your job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Welcomes and greets guests. 
• Takes food and beverage orders.
• Responsible for all cash transactions.
• Responsible for sanitary standards for the coffee station, serving and eating areas.
• Staying updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items...etc.
• Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering desserts and drinks.
• Obtaining revenues, issuing receipts, accepting payments, returning the change. 
• Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by the Lead. 
• Assisting with special events as needed. 
• Understands and can communicate products and services available at the restaurant.
• Prepare some food items (salads, etc)

Requirements 

• Must be available to work weekends - we need full weekend availability    
• All employees must possess a food handler’s permit or the ability to obtain one shortly after employment .
• Excellent customer service skills. 
• Friendly and outgoing manner with the public. 
• Flexibility in work assignments and shift.
• Initiative and organizational skills.
• Staff are expected to be at work on time to their scheduled shifts and maintain a professional appearance and be friendly and welcoming to guests and co-workers at all times. 

Physical Demands

• Requires moderate physical effort. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing, lifting of weights up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions

• Working conditions involve noise, heat, temperature changes, kitchen elements, odors, moisture, etc. May be required to work additional hours as dictated by the work load and staffing. Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
