Lead Art Teacher Position:
Created By Kids is a fine arts-focused educational business serving families throughout Brooklyn and beyond; we are centrally located just steps from Barclays/Atlantic Center. We are currently looking to fill a Lead Art Teacher position. Our ideal candidate will have a good balance of experience working with kids as well as a knowledge of various fine arts mediums, be comfortable and confident managing a classroom and developing curriculum, maintain high standards of professionalism in a kid-friendly work environment, and exhibit excellent teaching and communication skills.
Job Summary:
The Lead Art Teacher will be responsible for guiding students’ artistic interest and skill set and encouraging their creative expression in visual terms via skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with the studio’s standards. The job requires a strong work ethic, flexibility, and ability to think and act quickly at all times, jumping in to help out with whatever may be needed as part of a small, dedicated team. When working together, our teaching staff helps children develop a fundamental understanding and appreciation of the arts while maintaining a fun and creative classroom environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to manage a classroom of up to 30 students varying in ages from 4-13
Teach visual art techniques and skills in a variety of mediums, including but not limited to: ceramics (clay); drawing and illustration; painting (acrylic, watercolor, and gouache); printmaking (screen, relief, and block); working with textiles, fiber, and sewing; simple machines and STEM-based projects with an arts emphasis. Ideal candidates will have a baseline understanding of these as well as an ability to learn and adapt existing skills within our established Created By Kids approach
Work as a team to develop curriculum
Plan and then demonstrate projects step-by-step
Prepare materials for upcoming classes
Help maintain and organize inventory of supplies (this may require lifting up to 50-lb boxes of clay)
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual, emotional, and artistic abilities
Quickly assess and prioritize tasks at hand and always be on the move; working with kids can be very fast-paced!
Instruct students in proper care and safe use of tools and equipment
Travel to local nearby schools to provide off-site classes (this will require transporting materials to off-site locations, and may also require bringing projects safely back to the studio, such as clay projects in need of firing in our on-site kiln)
Maintain professional competence through in-studio training and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
Communicate with parents, staff, and offsite Directors
Project a fun, outgoing personality, while developing professional relationships with your students, parents, and colleagues

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge/Skills For Lead Art Teaching Job
Two years of experience working with kids
Visual art and teaching experience
A passion for creating art in any form
Minimum Education Requirements / Certification:
High school Diploma
Bachelor’s degree (or working towards) preferred
Mandated Reporter Certification (you will need to complete this before you start the job)
Additional Requirements:
All candidates must pass a background check and a biennial physical to keep up to date with the DOH
Benefits and Pay
Starting pay is $20 hourly with a guaranteed wage increase within the first 6 months
Monday - Friday availability minimum 25 hrs a week
