Summary of Responsibilities

Bellweather Design-Build, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Lead Architectural Drafter. In this role, the Lead Architectural Drafter will oversee the drafting department, which includes acting as critical support for all architectural design efforts such as creating and reviewing drawing sets, applying and processing permits, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing the execution of some design projects from concept to completion. The role requires a combination of creative design abilities, technical expertise, and both project and people management skills.

Essential Functions

  • Build and nurture strong lasting relationships with team members, clients, trades and vendors
  • Be a leader who will help us establish, build, and directly manage a team of full-time drafts people, whose primary focus is to develop comprehensive drawing sets for each project in a timely manner as Bellweather continues to grow
  • Be a leader and collaborate to deliver creative and elevated design options
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members including engineers, interior designers, architects, zoning lawyers, trade partners, and construction professionals to develop comprehensive project drawing sets and strategies
  • Understand architectural history and styles and how to blend new with old and help develop creative solutions that work in older homes
  • Provide oversight and focus on developing and sustaining a high level of consistency on all drawing sets throughout the design department by reviewing and proofing all drawing sets for each project. This includes both internal and external drawing sets
  • Create and present detailed drawing sets including sketches, schematic set, bid set, permit set, and construction set
  • Conduct early site visits and assessments to gather information, assess feasibility, and ensure adherence to design intent during the construction phase. Conduct end of design site visits to confirm all critical dimensions. There may also be occasional site visits needed once the project starts construction.
  • Review and evaluate project progress with the design and production team to identify and address potential issues to maintain project timelines and budgets
  • Occasionally be responsible for leading the architectural design process for various high-end residential projects

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree Architectural Design
  • 5+ years of experience in residential architectural design
  • Proficiency in architectural design software's such as Chief Architect and AutoCAD. Experience in rendering software is a plus
  • Demonstrates proficiency and excellence in MS Word and Excel, experience in Trello and Buildertrend is a plus
  • Strong understanding of building codes, permitting, construction methods, and materials
  • Knowledge of entire construction of a home from foundation to finishes, including understanding and diagnoses of residential structure
  • Experience and knowledge in the following is required:
    • Partial and whole home remodeling
    • Additions, garages, porches and decks
    • Basement excavations
    • Structural engineering coordination in residential
    • Residential space planning
    • Residential as-builts field measuring & drafting
    • Full construction documents
    • Site restrictions (FAR, lot coverage, setbacks)
    • IRC codes and standards (preferred)
    • Historic home architectural styles and remodeling (preferred)
    • Philly Row home construction (preferred)

Compensation

  • $85,000-$95,000
