Job description

Lead Anesthesia Tech

- (3272087)


The Lead Anesthesia Tech works under the direct report of the Nursing Director and general direction of the Medical Director, Support and Supply.

Problem-solves independently in all areas and acts as a primary point of contact for other Anesthesia Techs and clinicians.

Develops training materials, mentors and coaches newly hired techs.

Assists supervisor/manager with operational tasks (e.g. staff scheduling).

May be asked to support inventory management and supply chain resolution support.


Education:

High school diploma required. Associate degree preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required.


Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:

American Society of Anesthesia Technicians / Technologists (ASATT) certification preferred.

Basic Life Support certification required within six months of employment.


Experience

5+ years of direct Anesthesia Tech experience required. Lead Tech / Supervisory experience STRONGLY preferred.

Advanced knowledge of equipment, machinery and specialty instruments, and ability to work in complex settings.


Skills / Abilities / Competencies Required


  • Complexity requirements:

Must possess exceptional organizational skills and flexibility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must demonstrate acumen for attention to detail. Must exercise appropriate judgment as necessary and possess strong problem-solving skills. Know all vascular assess systems used in Anesthesia department practice.


  • Interpersonal requirements:

Requires strong interpersonal skills. Must possess ability to work in a hospital environment closely with and effectively with a variety of professional staff (e.g., physicians, CRNAs and nurses). Must work cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.


3. Technical requirements:

Demonstrates knowledge of basic patient care principles. Has knowledge of HIPAA, Confidentiality and Privacy Policies. Required to understand and demonstrate understanding of MGH emergency protocols. Has knowledge of sterile technique and can participate in activities requiring this skill without contamination.


  • Environmental requirements:

Fast paced, high volume, 8 operating rooms which 2 OR rooms are used for Endo procedures. High stress working conditions including shifting priorities and tight schedules and emergency surgery. Exposure to blood and secretions on contaminated equipment, needles, medications and patients with undiagnosed diseases.


  • Physical requirements:

Must be able to remain on feet and for extended periods of time. Must be able to push and pull heavy equipment and lift up to fifty pounds.
