Summary
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts daily clothing and bedding exchange for detainees in their living quarters
- Receives soiled uniforms, bedding and other linen issued to detainees
- Maintain laundry exchange record sheet
- Monitor inmate work teams stocking the laundry carts
- Monitor inmate work teams laundering soiled uniforms and linens
- Maintains cleanliness of laundry area
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate
- Knowledge of basic laundering techniques
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to maintain records and documents; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and detainees
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Required to work weekends, holidays and perform shift work
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are inside an industrial laundry within a jail environment; exposure to damp/wet conditions with limited exposure to hazardous laundry chemicals, noxious odors and fumes
- Physical requirements include carrying/lifting of 10-15 lbs., and 25-60 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate industrial laundering equipment. Subject to handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching and twisting to perform the essential functions
