Responsible for reviewing patient’s charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required for scheduled exam and records patient complaint and history. Acts as a scribe while physician examines patient entering data into EMR or handwrites in patient’s chart, oversees patient’s flow schedule. Able to take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Performs lensometry, refractometry, applanation tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, assess the anterior chamber, confrontation visual fields, and gross external exam. Administer diagnostic tests. Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained. Assists with patient education. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day. Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or physician. Maintains a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
QualificationsRequired Minimum Education: H.S. Diploma; Some College; COA / COT certification
Required Minimum Experience: 2-3 years in ophthalmology/optometry field
A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of laser software and laser safety
- Knowledge of eye terminology, pathology, anatomy and physiology of the eye
- Familiar with EMR System; knowledge of MS Office applications; excellent typing skills (accuracy)
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; punctual and reliable
- Ability to multitask; possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Conscientious about triage and escalation of issues
- Ability to work well in a team environment; must be a team player
