This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Large Animal Attendant positions with the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State University ( OSU).
The Student Animal Attendant provides continuous daily cleaning of VTH facilities, cleaning/maintenance of equipment, and feeding/care of patients and teaching herd animals. 
They serve as additional support staff for a operating veterinary clinic; Provide care to patients (cleaning/re bedding, feeding, watering), and cleaning and disinfecting of stalls, equipment, and common areas. Most shifts are two or four hours. 
The schedule will include at least one weekend day shift. As the hospital is operating year round, Student Animal Attendants are required to work some Holidays and during breaks.
Position Duties
80% 
  •  Cleaning & Disinfecting of stalls, equipment, and tools. 
  • Providing care by cleaning/re-bedding stalls, feeding and watering of patients and teaching herd animals. 
15% 
  • Cleaning and minimal maintenance throughout the Large Animal hospital (in/outside); such as:
    • Weed and leaf control, painting, cobwebs and dusting, cleaning and disinfecting of walls, floors, etc. in common areas. 
5%
  • Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Experience with Large Animals (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) handling, care and behaviors.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • At least 1 year experience with LARGE ANIMAL (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) care and handling.
  • Experience in animal care facility.
  • Farm equipment experience.
