Summary:
The Language Services Equipment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the daily evaluation, maintenance and proper up keeping of all Language Services equipment provided by the Case Management Department. Assists with staff education regarding use of video remote interpreter/VRI and over the phone interpreter/OPI equipment. Develops and maintains equipment logs to keep track of equipment's location and use in real time. This position will assist in ensuring compliance with the standards set forth by the regulatory agencies in regards to the provision of Language Services. This position will also serve as a liaison with internal departments and external stakeholders, as necessary, in relation to all Language Services related equipment. To provide patient, families, visitors, and staff access to employees who accurately interpret via face-to-face encounters during designated hours. Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/patients' families and Medical Center health care providers. Act as a Language liaison between the patient, family, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter Services for non-Spanish Languages (via OPI/over the phone, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or contract services).
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting with current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
- Previous interpretation / translation experience preferred.
- Spanish interpreters / translators must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests. All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency level.
- To qualify for employment, applicants must meet minimally required Spanish proficiency levels. Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service prior to completion of the employment process. Applicants must test at the proficient level to qualify.
- Subsequent to employment, Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employee's annual review. Testing is administered by a contracted testing service.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy, MC 175
