JOB SUMMARY
The Landscape Technician II assists in performing essential services to the Hamline University campus including: landscape maintenance, landscape construction and implementation, installation and ongoing care of woody and herbaceous plant materials, ornamental and athletic turf and variety of athletic performance surfaces, irrigation system operation, repair and installation, tree care, and primary snow and ice management while maintaining high standards of site presentation excellence. This position will also assist other Facilities Services personnel as directed.
Compensation: $27,00/hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate on a wide variety of land care and exterior site maintenance and management including plant, tree, turf and hardscapes.
• Participates in maintenance and repair of campus hardscapes, sidewalks, roads and parking lots.
• Help perform spring planting, mulching, watering and weeding of planting beds throughout the growing season.
• Assist with landscape construction and implementation including a variety of equipment operation and irrigation systems
• Perform critical Snow and Ice Removal including large equipment operation.
• Athletic fields, track and court maintenance and preparation, meeting NCAA requirements and safety standards.
• Operate and maintain equipment and vehicles used in operations and irrigation
• Other duties as requested
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the: Director of Facilities Operations and gets work direction from the Lead Landscape Technician III. Assists and works with all Facilities Services personnel as requested
Employee Supervision: May assist in the direction of 1-2 student workers

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KEY COMPETENCIES
• Have the knowledge of plant materials and care including turf management.
• Have the knowledge of irrigation systems operations installation, repair and management
• Have the ability to operate a wide variety of landscape equipment including snow and ice removal equipment.
• Have the ability to communicate effectively in various forms and within a team framework.
• Have the ability to work and make decisions and exercise judgment independently.
• Have the ability to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and holidays.
Have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• Two year degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, closely related post high school education, or three years of directly related work experience in campus land care, athletic turf, or commercial/institutional grounds maintenance.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be 18 years or older.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Be a Certified Landscape Professional with MNLA
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
• Hold a valid Minnesota Pesticide Applicators License (A,E) or obtain within 90 days.
• Hold a valid Minnesota Driver's License
• Pass a criminal background check
• Pass a pre-employment occupational physical
WORKING CONDITIONS / EQUIPMENT
Must perform the following essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation:
• Have the ability to perform the physical demands of the job ( e.g. heavy lifting over 50 pounds, climbing and working from ladders to heights over 20 feet, working from kneeling and stooping positions
• Ability to work outdoors during extreme weather conditions (e.g. rain, snow, freezing temperatures, heat and humidity)
• Operating equipment with vibration and noise
• Operating a wide range of power equipment including loaders and forklift
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• This is a full time, 1.0 FTE non-exempt position which requires a minimum of 40 hours a week, 12 months a year
• Is a member of a local unionized bargaining unit
• This position requires overtime during peak seasons
• Occasional night and or weekend work may be required
