LAND SURVEYOR TECHNICIAN – Langdon, ND

Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering is seeking a self-motivated individual who is looking to join our team with the possibility of advancement within our company. The successful candidate will work with our Land Surveyors to assist in surveying. This position is an excellent opportunity that may lead to a more prominent role as a Survey Crew Chief with experience and training which will be provided by our company. Candidate will be performing a wide variety of different types of surveys which is both rewarding and challenging. Overnight travel is extremely rare, which makes this desirable for any individual with a family or for individuals who are tired of excessive overnight travel.

We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but have also done work across the state of ND. We have continued to grow our client base and projects over the past 28 years, striving to provide the most accurate and quality services for our clients. We are a small company where every employee plays a very important role. This position will work in both public and private sectors providing topographic, boundary/cadastral, construction, ALTA, As-built, land development, easement, residential, farmstead, lake lots and commercial surveying.

Full-time Hourly M-F with some possible overtime. Wage depending on experience. $26-31 per hour

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

· Follows the directives of the Survey Crew Chief to complete assigned tasks.

· Operates all of the instrumentation required for the collection or distribution of survey data. Understands the information shown on the data collectors and can ascertain the erroneous data from the good data.

· Assist field crew with preparing notes, assembling field data, records and field drawings. Transmits survey data to the proper files in the computer network.

· Marks points of measurement with elevations, station number or other identifying mark. Places stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation. Sets and locates monuments.

· Ensure survey vehicle is supplied with stakes, flagging, lath, hubs, caps, paint, ribbon, fuel for generator, etc. Coordinate with Survey Crew Chief to ensure pickups/UTV’s obtain needed maintenance and oil changes are scheduled in a timely manner.

· Maintains equipment in good working condition including calibrations, collimations and general cleaning. Keeps batteries charged and communicates the need for replacement batteries or equipment as necessary.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

· A 2 year Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or Land Surveying is highly preferred. Experience may be acceptable in lieu of an Associate’s Degree.

· Trimble survey equipment and robotics experience preferred.

· Basic knowledge of the effective practices, methods and techniques of land surveying and data collection and be able to perform simple surveying calculations.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

· Basic knowledge of AutoCad or a willingness to learn.

· Must be detail orientated, self-motivated with the ability to think independently, and have strong listening, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to speak and write English clearly.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record and provide a drug test if asked to do so.

· Applicant will be both indoors and outdoors and be capable of lifting 50-75# and do manual field labor tasks such as clearing vegetation, driving in rebar/lathe for staking, be able to walk on uneven terrain and be capable of standing or walking for long periods.

· Proven work history with strong work ethic.

· Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.

Pay: $22.00 - $29.00 per hour
