This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Project Management & Engineering
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Example of Duties
Work independently to provide direct support to the Municipal Surveyor by performing chain of title research for land rights and ownership interests affecting public and private land. Gather pertinent land and utility records, prepare survey information packages, write survey instructions requesting land surveys from contract surveyors for Municipal projects.
Conduct thorough review of the mathematical and legal land rights information contained in subdivision plat submittals and resolve survey comment issues with the LAND SURVEYOR to ensure compliance with municipal land use code.
Review, prepare and approve for municipal use: parcel maps for land acquisition projects, construction documents for accuracy, construction layout and legal descriptions for accuracy. Write legal descriptions of easements for municipal acquisition, create various survey maps for projects, calculate survey adjustments, perform survey measurements with survey instruments, calculate survey measurement adjustments, verify accuracy of earthwork quantity calculations, recover monument information for boundary determinations and perform field surveys for various projects. Create and maintain survey records file system for all survey projects. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics or a closely related discipline, and four (4) years of professional engineering experience or (4) years of land surveying experience.
OR
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics or a closely related discipline, and six (6) years of professional engineering experience or (6) years of experience in land surveying.
Must possess the following by the time of hire:
  • Valid State of Alaska driver's license by time of hire.

Preferences:
  • Alaska Professional Land Surveyor registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience preparing maps and legal descriptions for municipal right-of-way acquisitions.
  • Experience preparing parcel maps and legal descriptions for municipal right of way acquisitions.
  • Experience preparing subdivision plats and knowledge of platting requirements in accordance with Title 21 of land use code.
  • Working knowledge of the Municipality of Anchorage Bench Mark Network.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
