What can you expect?
As the Professional Land Surveyor, you are responsible for the use of surveying equipment and collection and use of spatial data for mapping and construction. You are also responsible for creating maps and report figures to support projects and organizing and managing data for reporting.
How will you do it?
Surveying with RTK GPS survey equipment:

  • Depending on accuracy requirements, use survey, mapping grade or total station to collect data for various environmental projects such as boring locations, field screening locations, sample locations, etc.
  • Use survey equipment to collect data and provide layout locations and topography surveys for various projects.
  • Manage, process, and ensure quality of survey data being sent in from field.
  • Input and plot coordinates from surveyor's data and field notes.
  • Conduct surveys using differential leveling and Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS.

Cartography with ESRI software (ArcGIS Standard and ArcGIS Pro):
  • Develop geodatabases compliant with client standards.
  • Integrate geodatabases with other data management tools.
  • Produce maps using raster and vector spatial data structures.
  • Prepare maps with point, line, and polygon datasets.
  • Establish and update metadata.
  • Incorporate AutoCAD drawings into ArcGIS mapping.
  • Ensure good cartography and engineering design with proper scaling.

Cartography with AutoCAD software (Civil 3D/Map3D/Raster Design):
  • Produce maps using raster and vector spatial data structures.
  • Prepare maps with point, line, and polygon datasets.
  • Edit shapefile data using CAD drafting tools.
  • Bring data (survey) from the field and process it into database and map deliverables.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Collect, create, and manage survey data, including design and use of relational databases and querying tools.

Who is Brice Engineering looking for?
  • Associate of Science degree in Survey Engineering, Land Surveying, Geodesy, Remote Sensing, or related discipline required.
  • Over 8 years' experience in a survey crew. Experience in construction surveying, machine control modeling and civil construction projects.
  • Current Professional Land Surveyor license from the state of Alaska.
  • Strong experience in the theory and practice of collecting and reducing survey data.
  • Must be adept at understanding map projections, vertical and geodetic datums, and coordinate system transformations.
  • Must be adept at understanding technical aspects of field work for conversion to maps and graphics.
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Predominantly field assignments outdoors.
  • Fieldwork for collection of spatial data may require travel in aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs and/or watercraft for periods of days to weeks, generally in remote locations.
  • Outdoor conditions may be subject to changes in weather conditions and noise levels.
  • Must be willing and able to travel and work long hours to support rigorous timelines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Standing and stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity with good hand-eye coordination and motion control for handling equipment in the field.

Occasionally: standing, bending over, crawling, climbing, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, balancing, pushing or pulling, repetitive use of legs, grasping, lifting/carrying 10-75 lbs., eye/hand coordination (foot), fine manipulation, outside: hot/cold temperatures, humid, sharp objects/tool, heavy machinery, dirty (soil), dry, fumes, gases, odors, dust, grease, oil, mud, moving mechanical parts, noise, wet/slippery floors/surfaces.
Continuously: close vision (clear at 20" or less), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up & down or to the left & right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances & spatial relationships), thinking analytically, using effective verbal communication, making decisions, examining/observing details, inside: hot/heat, cold.
Frequently: sitting, walking, talking, lifting 26-50 lbs., distance vision (clear at 20' or more), ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object in to sharp focus), using effective written communication, handling stress & emotions, concentrating on tasks, discriminating colors, remember details, adjusting to changes, working with others and working alone.
