Job Description

APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE COMPUTER ASSOCIATE (SOFTWARE) CIVIL SERVICE TITLE,
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSS’s technology services organization. Its mission is to support the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of both agencies. ITS creates and enhances the technology infrastructure and computer applications that support HRA and DHS and develops applications, including a variety of client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing systems, employment/work engagement services, revenue producing computer matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is recruiting one (1) Computer Associate Software II, to function as LAN Service Associate, who, with wide latitude for independent initiative or judgment, holds technical responsibility for performing complex technical activities related to the ongoing operation of HRA's Enterprise-wide Agency LAN (Local Area Network) consisting of over 100 locations in the five boroughs that include Paperless Office Systems (POS) sites and Job Centers. These complex activities ensure the integrity and efficiency of the networks and the minimization of a loss of system time and/or resources due to system failures.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is recruiting for one (1) Computer Specialist (Software) II to function as a LAN Service Associate who will:
  • Perform technical diagnostics for LAN software/hardware to ensure efficient operation of the network; monitor the Enterprise-wide LAN to ensure prompt and expedient problem resolution; monitor server logs to verify that all local nodes are available and functioning.

  • Provide technical assistance to customer area staff by relaying technical information on the capabilities and limitations of LAN functionality in order to minimize the possibility of disruption of desktop services; troubleshoot system issues, opening trouble tickets as needed.

  • Instruct or demonstrate to staff and customers the proper, efficient usage and/or installation of highly complex network application software or related program product software.

  • Monitor cross platform connectivity of HRA's Enterprise-wide LAN with other Agency's Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, mini-computer networks, and mainframes.

  • Assists in the development of highly complex technical recommendations regarding network strategic planning, consolidation, system conversions and network acquisition needs for the network's growth and upgrade of network devices
