This is a semi-skilled level of utility maintenance and janitorial work performed in and around the City buildings and facilities. Work involves the performance of manual labor and various tasks related to the maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of facilities. Assignments are performed in accordance with established procedures under general supervision. Specific instructions are received on new work assignments or special cleaning/maintenance problems. Work is normally subject to inspection upon completion for compliance with instructions.

- Janitorial duties in City facilities.
- Landscaping, snow and ice removal, sidewalk cleaning and other related tasks at City facilities.
- Truck and equipment operation for transporting workers, tools and materials.
- Snow plowing and ice removal on and within public facilities.
- Room setup, teardown and cleanup for meetings.
- Pick up and deliver mail; move books and furniture as required.
- Inspect, maintain and repair, buildings, parking facilities, gates and related equipment.
- Inspect, maintain and operate building and facility HVAC and other controls.
- Painting City facilities and equipment including the operation of relevant equipment and tools.
- Performs related work including work in positions classified above and below this position as required.
Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school or vocational/technical school; considerable experience with parking maintenance in the facilities maintenance department or any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Certificates and Licenses: Possession and maintenance of a Valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work is performed in and around all City property in all conditions including hot, cold, wet, windy and dry weather.
Work requires: Traveling to in-town work sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which may be uneven, wet or slippery or sloped.
- Visual ability and manual dexterity to use a computer and safely operate small tools including motorized tools.
- Ability to sit at a computer station and within vehicles sometimes for extended periods.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to enter, exit and safely operate motorized equipment.
- Availability for occasional out-of-town travel to attend required training.
Must be able to pass a Police background check.
