As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen, lawful resident alien, citizen of American Samoa or other territory owning permanent allegiance to the United States.
The contractors are responsible for delivering laboratory and scientific assistance at the Center for Genome Sciences (CGS), with a focus on training, mentoring, and supervising technical tasks of supporting staff. They will engage in research investigations, particularly in reverse genetics and synthetic biology. Additionally, the contractors will offer laboratory support for BSL-3 and BSL-4 facilities, necessitating the possession and maintenance of BPRP status in accordance with the terms outlined in the contract and relevant regulations.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Laboratory Technician V: $65,000
Pay commensurate with experience.

Laboratory Technician V Responsibilities Include:
- Provide expertise in rescuing, characterizing, and propagating various viruses, including Ebola, Nipah, Lassa, Zika, Dengue, Western Equine Encephalitis, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Coronavirus, and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis.
- Perform plaque assays, TCID-50's (Tissue Culture Infectious Dose), immunofluorescence assays, and validate virus inactivation.
- Demonstrate proficiency in next-generation sequencing technologies, including Illumina (MiSeq/NextSeq/HiSeq), Pacific Bioscience (RSII/Sequel), and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (MinION).
- Exhibit expertise in Sanger Sequencing.
- Conduct nucleic acid extraction, bioanalysis, and quantitation.
- Utilize conventional PCR and quantitative PCR (qPCR) techniques.
- Perform manual and automated library preparation for RNAseq and DNAseq.
- Carry out DNA size selection and fractionation, employing methods such as SAGE ELF and Blue Pippin.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in various molecular biology techniques, including cloning, primer design, Gibson Assembly, restriction enzyme digestion, ligation, site-directed mutagenesis, in vitro transcription, and reverse transcription.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Laboratory Technician V Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- The position requires a Master of Science, Biomedical Science in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology of 5 years' experience. Extensive experience in high-throughput sequencing is required.
- Assist Principal Investigators (PIs) in preparing technical reports and manuscripts for publication.
- Demonstrate understanding of the progress toward publication, following guidelines provided by the TPOC/COR (Task Point of Contact/Contracting Officer's Representative).
- Show progress towards publication by outlining efforts to obtain and format data and research methods.
- Submit a Lab Progress Report monthly to the TPOC (Task Point of Contact).
- Optionally contribute to Quarterly Reports to funding agencies as an acceptable alternative format to publication outlines.
- Update Lab Data weekly in a shared continuity folder for all publications/Quarterly Reports.
- Ensure the continuity folder includes all supporting data or directories where raw and processed data, as well as sample processing records, are stored.
- Under special circumstances, the contactor may require variable work schedules (second shift) and occasional weekends in order to accomplish time sensitive laboratory tasks.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Clearance.
- Enrollment in Biosurety Personal Reliability Program.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
