Position Summary:
The Shock Lab at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the PI and other study staff and trainees with tissue culture maintenance and quantitative molecular assays to investigate the biological drivers of breast cancer racial disparities. This includes qPCR, immunoblotting, and Seahorse bioenergetic profiling assays, and all associated data analyses. The successful candidate will also assist with lab managerial duties (i.e. ordering, lab safety compliance/monitoring, etc.), and will help the PI with training junior students.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist with cell culture maintenance and assay setup
- Cellular and molecular data collection
- Quantitative data analysis
- Assist with Laboratory maintenance/management
- A Bachelor's degree and a willingness to actively participate in basic molecular biology research
- Have at least 6 months of work experience in a wet lab setting
- Have experience with at least 2 of the following techniques: mammalian cell culture, quantitative PCR, and/or immunoblotting
- Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU
It is preferable that the candidate have experience with multiple of the following techniques:
- ELISA and/or ELISA-like assays
- enzyme kinetics
- pharmacologic treatment of cells
- subcellular fractionation
- microscopy
