We are currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Job Snapshot:

• Laboratory sample receipt and processing
• Compaction testing of soil
• Physical characteristics testing of soil and aggregate
• Compressive strength testing of soil, rock, concrete and other cementitious material
• Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording of testing results
• Calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
• Performance of laboratory testing in compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications
• Communication of field and laboratory testing results with Construction Services Project Management staff, contractors, and clients
• NOTE: While the primary responsibilities of this position are performed in the laboratory, testing and observations on construction sites can be required, based on workload and project needs.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years' experience in geotechnical and/or construction materials laboratory testing
• Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing), using the English language
• Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
• Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
• Ability and willingness to prepare for and pass applicable certification examinations such as ACI Strength, NICET Soils, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Vocational training in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Geology, Natural Sciences (or equivalent)
• Familiarity with construction materials and processes

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough and uneven terrain
• Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
• Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
