Job Description:
General Summary: The Cancer & Hematology Centers are looking for an IT expert who desires to accelerate their career growth as a Laboratory Information Systemsand Interface Administrator. CHC is looking for someone to own our LIS and electronic medical interface systems.
The Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Interface Administrator has the following expectations:

  • Configure and test electronic medical interfaces to ensure proper data exchange and integration.
  • Identify and resolve electronic medical interface issues
  • Develop and maintain electronic medical interface documentation, including specifications and testing plans
  • Collaborate, create and maintain interfaces with our health information exchange to coordinate patient care
  • Participates and completes specifications and vendor requirements for new electronic medical interfaces
  • Performs testing with other IT departments to test new interfaces and Interface changes.
  • Participate in electronic medical interface-related meetings and project planning activities when optimizing or implementing new programs and onboarding new practices
  • Administrate Laboratory Information Systems, middleware and vendor systems responsible for the configuration of accounts, rules, test/order choice menus, and other system-wide settings.
  • Manage HL7 integration projects between the different Laboratory Information Systems, billing system, laboratory instruments and the EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
  • Handle support tickets for LIS's, vendor systems and electronic medical interfaces; troubleshoot and coordinate solutions with users/vendors to close out tickets in a timely manner
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and annual system checks.
  • Acts as liaison between IT and other departments regarding computer system development and problems
  • Is responsible for assisting with database management and customization.
  • Monitors system performance statistics to ensure that changes are performed within standards
  • Solves system problems and issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • General understanding of HL7, orders/results EMR
  • Participate in training and knowledge transfer activities
  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve interface issues
  • Maintain existing servers, workstations and office equipment. Implement new servers, workstations and their related operating systems and software, to meet the needs of the organization and improve efficiency. Ensure best utilization of all existing resources.
  • Identify, configure, and document solutions for maintaining an efficiently running and secure environment
  • Collaborate with other staff members to identify and implement new applications, application systems
  • Assist the HIPAA Security Officer with integration of procedures that help to maintain a compliant organization
  • Monitors and identifies capacity and performance issues for interface traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation of interface systems

Job Requirements:
Education/ Experience: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Medical Technology or equivalent work experience.
Certification: None required. ITIL or equivalent preferred.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education:
Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to review detailed data and make prompt judgments based on that data. Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, interruptions and high work volume. Professional appearance. Able to multi-task efficiently. Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Experience:
1. Proficient with managing Qvera Interface Engine, 3 years experience
2. Proficient with managing Orchard Harvest, 3 years experience
3. Configuring lab printers
4. Configuring lab labels
5. Experience gathering systems performance statistics
6. Experience installing and troubleshooting applications.
Function as a team member by expanding his/her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
Communicates and interacts with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHC staff morale. Interacts effectively with patients/family members and demonstrates sensitivity in regard to cultural diversity, age specific needs and confidentiality.
This employee has access to medical records daily.
Work Environment:
Able to see clearly in an environment which is equipped with typical lighting. Able to perform manual tasks that require the use of fine muscle motor skills. Able to walk approximately one mile per workday. Able to lift 50 pounds. Able to stand and / or sit for prolonged periods. Able to freely bend/stretch. Able to access, input and retrieve information from computer. Very fast-paced and ever-changing office environment. Demanding regarding deadlines and time frames. Very detailed and challenging work. Constant demand for updating knowledge.
