Graymont is seeking a full-time, entry level Laboratory Chemist based out of our Central Lab in Sandy, Utah. The Laboratory Chemist is a valuable resource who will conduct testing on limestone and lime products from all Graymont locations.
This entry level position is a great opportunity for a recent college graduate holding degree in physical sciences.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Understand and follow established laboratory procedures, safety policies and best practices.
• Prepare incoming samples for further testing in the lab, including operating a chipmunk crusher and disc pulverizer.
• Conduct routine testing on limestone, lime products, and other raw materials using various chemical and physical test methods.
• Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on lab equipment and instruments.
• Perform basic instrument calibration and maintain calibration logs.
• Prepare compounds, reagents, and solutions used in laboratory procedures.
• Enter test and calibration results into Laboratory Information Management database.
• Ensure that established lab turnaround times are met.
• Participate in the refinement and review of laboratory procedures as assigned by the Lab Supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Properly dispose of hazardous and nonhazardous material, which may include transporting materials to an off-site location.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.S. degree in a physical science field.
• Ability to develop and maintain a safe work culture.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Willing to travel and work in plant environment as needed.
• Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Must be meticulous and able to work independently and safely.
• Knowledgeable in sampling and sample preparation techniques.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and sit or stand for long periods of time.
