The Laboratory Animal Veterinary Assistant will work as part of a pre-clinical studies team with the responsibility of assisting with studies involving Laboratory Animals. This position includes care of animals in a research setting as well as facility upkeep and maintenance. This position requires a person to be flexible, detail oriented and work with a team but also independently. The candidate must perform the necessary functions to fulfill research obligations while staying within animal use protocols and regulatory compliance.

What We’re Looking For:
Required:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three years of experience working with animals in a research, clinical, or agricultural setting.
- Comfortable working with animals in a research setting.
- Willingness to learn to work with and handle a variety of species.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to learn and follow safety procedures; including the wearing of personal protective equipment as required.
- Ability to work as a reliable member in an established research team and willingness to learn new procedures.
- Ability to learn to perform routine animal care and evaluate the general condition of study animals under guidance of experienced staff.
- Able to work well with others and work in a team environment.
- Ability to follow written preventative maintenance instructions for a variety of equipment.
- A valid US or Canadian driver’s license.
- NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certification.
- AALAS certification.
- Working knowledge of regulatory compliance issues in animal research.
Additional Information:
- This position may require weekend and evening work, including late duties that are rotated among team members as business need.
