Pay Rate: $ 26- 27 / hr
The Phlebotomist draws blood from patients or donors of all ages in hospitals, clinics, blood banks, or similar facilities for analysis or other medical purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assembles equipment, such as tourniquets, needles, and disposable containers for sharps, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures
- Verifies identity of patient or donor
- Converses with patient or donor and explains procedure
- Applies tourniquet to arm, locates accessible vein, swabs puncture area with antiseptic, and inserts needle into vein to draw blood into collection tube or bag
- Knowledgeable in selection of appropriate collection devices, tubes and gauges
- Withdraws needle, applies treatment to puncture site, and labels and stores blood container for subsequent processing
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with subsequent certification (if applicable) as a Phlebotomist
- Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Maxim's Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
