Job Title:Lab Safety Manager - 992565 Location: Fort Lauderdale-Davie, Florida Work Type: Full Time with Full Benefits Job Category: Exempt Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience Pay Basis:

Subject to Grant Funding?: No   Essential Job Functions: 1. Key point of contact and subject matter expert for laboratory safety such as management of hazardous waste from labs throughout campus and associated inspections including lab inspections. Manages hazardous materials inventory, and decommissions laboratories when researchers depart NSU or move lab space.
2. Participates with inspection of radioactive material labs; conducts surveys; and manages radioactive waste.
3. Assists with EHS training in areas such as safe handling of chemical, biological and radioactive hazards and using EHS management software.
4. Manages the respiratory protection program and supervises fit-testing staff, including annual training and medical clearance documentation for OSHA compliance.
5. Assists in the implementation of various environmental health and safety programs and initiatives.
6. Performs annual review of applicable written plans, policies and procedures.
7. Tracks and manages incidents, assets, hazardous materials, inspections, and issues using EHS software. Assists in processing invoices as well as conducting accident investigations, especially when related to laboratory associated incidents. Manages hazardous materials compliance reports and tracking to include particularly hazardous items such as peroxide formers.
8. Leads annual Laboratory Safety Awareness Week initiatives.
9. Contributes to the EHS annual report and document achievements.
10. Creates and distributes the quarterly Hazardous Waste Newsletter and produces media or marketing materials to promote EHS efforts and initiatives.
11. Manages online safety training content and contract.
12. Reviews and tracks all indoor air quality concerns and performs assessments in a timely manner and manages responses.
13. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Marginal Job Functions: Participates in professional development training and activities. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Knowledge and experience using chemical inventory management software and/or other similar EHS management systems.
2. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
3. Ability to conduct EHS training sessions.
4. Advanced knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; database and data entry skills.
5. Ability to establish relationships with high level internal and external customers.
6. Ability to safely lift 30 lbs. Job Requirements:   Required Certifications/Licensures:   Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Major (if required):   Required Experience: Two (2) to four (4) years experience in educational or research/medical laboratory environment or related EHS experience. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Four (4) years of experience in educational or research/medical laboratory.
