Schuyler Hospital is looking for a dedicated Full TimeLab Assistant II, this position. The Lab Assistant II performs pre-analytical specimen receipt, processing, identification verification and specimen storage. The Lab Assistant II operates office equipment, registers patients, enters information and tests orders in to the laboratory computer system. The Lab Assistant II is responsible for ensuring correct patient identification on specimens and documentation and resolutions of pre-analytical specimen related issues. The Lab Assistant II manages work unit supply ordering and inventory. The Lab Assistant II provides training to others. The Lab Assistant II performs phlebotomy on inpatient floors, the ED and nursing home. The Lab Assistant II may be required to draw outpatients on off-hours. The Lab Assistant II is required to perform home draws and draw at PCC sites.
Requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required, Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
Experience:
- Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course OR 2 years of phlebotomy experience
Licensure:
- Not required
Physical Requirements:
- Repetitive bending over patients' bedside while collecting samples, repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, blood culture bottles, and computer labels and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job
