Works independently, without day-to-day supervision, monitoring patient drug therapy and administration, compounds and dispenses medication and related supplies utilizing professional pharmaceutical techniques.
Specific Duties:Technical:
- Establishing procedures, methods, and working schedules for pharmacy operations, coordinating activities with other clinic services.
- Maintains a drug information library which includes a reference file of product information. Prepares and disseminates information on therapeutic agents to professional staff. Establishes and maintains a formulary for concerned professional personnel.
- Is responsible for procurement and inventory of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy supplies. Maintains stock levels and periodically inspects drug stock.
- Performs pharmaceutical research to improve medical preparations and develops or adapts special formulas to meet clinical needs of client.
- Performs and directs supervision when necessary, the performance of packaging, labeling, measuring, compounding, distributing, storage, changing, and record-keeping of medications.
- Is responsible for prepackaging pharmaceuticals to be dispensed by the physician when Pharmacist isn’t on duty.
- Develops protocols for use when not on duty.
- Provides individual patient education concerning medication with special emphasis being given to high blood pressure and diabetic clients.
- Maintains clinical safety and sanitary standards.
- Maintains Kansas State Board of Pharmacy professional licensing and education requirements.
- Operates the pharmacy and executes duties in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations regarding pharmacies.
- Maintains legible records.
- Reviews written medication orders for appropriateness of therapy, to determine if needed, to assure that overdoses will not result from combining ingredients, or with other drugs being used by the client or interfere with scheduled laboratory tests.
- May consult with the IHS Pharmacist at Holton Clinic to monitor other drugs the patients may be using.
Graduate of an accredited school with BS in Pharmacology. A Kansas Licensed Pharmacist registered with State Board of Pharmacy.
