Job Description
OVERVIEW: Seattle Art Museum is searching for a Kirby Web Developer to provide support on a major website update project. Web developer responsibilities include building our website by customizing Kirby CMS system content blocks, page templates, and website frontend development. This role will work with an existing web development team and must be able to work effectively and comfortably and quickly adjust to changing priorities and situations.

Average of 15-20 hours per week; contract through July. Can be remote or Seattle-based.

REPORTS TO: Director of IT
COMPENSATION: $70-$90 per hour DOE
BENEFITS: Part-time regular employees are able to enroll in our company’s 403b plan. Employees will also accrue sick leave and vacation leave at a rate of .0385 per hour worked. There are twelve paid holidays and one floating holiday throughout the calendar year, that are paid on a pro-rated basis, reflective of employee’s average hours worked in the prior six weeks. Additional benefits include subsidized transportation (ORCA business passport), access to fitness facility, and museum membership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Customize Content Blocks: Work closely with the development team to customize and extend content blocks within the Kirby CMS system including blueprints, snippets and panel views. This involves creating, modifying, and optimizing content structures to meet project requirements.
- Page Templates Development: Design and implement page templates that enhance the user experience and align with the project's design specifications. Ensure templates are responsive and compatible across a suite of devices.
- Frontend Development: Collaborate with designers to translate design mockups into interactive and visually appealing web pages. Implement frontend functionalities leveraging Bulma.io CSS framework, custom CSS, and JavaScript.
- Integration of Third-Party Tools: Integrate and customize third-party tools and plugins as needed for specific project requirements.
- Collaboration with Team: Work closely with other developers, designers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and efficient project execution.
- Code Review and Optimization: Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality, identify areas for improvement, and optimize website performance.
- Problem Solving: Address technical challenges and troubleshoot issues to ensure smooth website functionality. Propose and implement solutions to enhance website performance and user experience.
- Proven experience as a Web Developer, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous web development projects.
- Proficiency in Kirby CMS and customization of content blocks and templates.
- Solid understanding of front end technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Vue and responsive design principles.
- Familiarity with web development best practices and standards.
- Ability to work with a development team

- Able to take initiative, prioritize multiple competing tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
- Ability to adhere to museum policies
- Experience using Tessitura or similar CRM-system
- Knowledge of backend technologies (e.g., PHP) for CMS customization.
- Familiarity with UX/UI design principles.
- Previous experience in a non-profit or cultural institution, or a related field.
Exposure: Work areas are primarily inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Stationary Work: Approximately 80% of time is spent stationary while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent moving around the work area. Occasional extended periods of standing may be required when assisting at Museum events.
Communication: Clear and effective communication with volunteers, donors, members, the public, and co-workers is necessary.
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
Moving: The ability to move up to twenty pounds on occasion is necessary for moving files, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to regularly position self to access files.
Office Work: Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers, and ability to inspect, prepare and use paperwork, files, equipment, and supplies is necessary.
