Job Description

KIPP Saint Louis Resident Teacher partnered with St. Louis Teacher Residency Program

Position Overview:  The KIPP St. Louis Resident Teacher is a position created exclusively for persons accepted into St. Louis Teacher Residency (STLTR) and committed to KIPP St. Louis schools.  STLTR is designed as an apprenticeship program where program participants earn their Missouri teaching licensure in elementary education or secondary language arts, math, or science, while working in a KIPP: St. Louis public school. KIPP Resident Teachers will complete their initial residency year at one of the program's KIPP training sites, co-teaching with an experienced mentor teacher.  After successful completion of the residency year, Teacher Residents are certified and become lead-teachers within the KIPP: St. Louis network. In the second year as a lead-teacher, Teacher Residents continue coursework at Washington University, earning a Master of Art in Teaching and Learning. 

Residency Program Components:

KIPP St. Louis and St. Louis Teacher Residency partner to provide KIPP Teacher Residents with an accelerated and cost-effective pathway into a career in education. KIPP Teacher Residents will: 

  • Complete a rigorous full-year classroom apprenticeship, co-teaching Monday - Thursday with an experienced mentor teacher at a KIPP: St. Louis training site school.  
  • On Fridays, participate in aligned graduate-level coursework with STLTR, preparing them to effectively serve students in urban schools and KIPP: St. Louis classrooms. 
  • Earn initial teacher certification in the state of Missouri and a Master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
  • Receive ongoing instructional coaching during their first two years in the program.
  • Commit to lead-teach in a KIPP: St. Louis school for 3 years after the initial apprenticeship year.
Qualifications

Eligibility: 

KIPP Teacher Residents are diverse candidates who believe that all students are capable of academic achievement and are ready to make a difference in St. Louis schools. We look for candidates with a variety of backgrounds, including recent college graduates, working professionals, and career changers. To be eligible to apply, all candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree completed by July 2024, in any area of study
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher
  • A commitment to work at KIPP: St. Louis for a total of four years.

Additional Information

Compensation & Benefits:

During the initial apprenticeship year, residents receive a salary of at least $24,000 provided by KIPP,  along with full health benefits and Paid Time Off. Residents are also guaranteed a permanent teaching position at the KIPP network upon completion of the apprenticeship year. In year 2, Teacher Residents become lead-teachers earning a full-time teacher salary.
