GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs intermediate technical work supervising and overseeing the operations, maintenance, staff, and
activities of the Saginaw County Animal Care & Control Center (SCACC), implements policy and procedure
changes to ensure efficient and effective operation, maintenance, and sanitation of kennel facilities, assists with
updating forms and social medica, assists the public and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is
performed under the limited supervisor of the Director. Continuous supervision is exercised over assigned
personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs intake for incoming animals; administers vaccinations and medications, takes temperatures, and
- Trains kennel technicians, kennel aides and road officers in all aspects of kennel responsibilities including
- Conducts daily rounds and observes animals throughout the day, identifying and addressing medical or
- Ensures that proper food, care, and shelter are provided for animals under the care of SCACC in accordance
- Monitors kennel technicians, kennel aides, and volunteers; ensures animal quarters and facilities are kept
cleaned, disinfected, and maintained; assists with animal care, cleaning, feeding, medical treatment, and
related behavioral testing.
- Assists with the humane euthanasia and ensures proper record keeping; ensures the humane care of animals
- Addresses staff and volunteers concerns regarding specific animals and ensures veterinary instructions are
- Assists with building maintenance and oversees basic custodial activities.
- Supervises assigned staff; assists in hiring, recommending discipline, training, scheduling, and conducting
- Recommends and implements changes to ensure efficient and effective operation, maintenance, and
- Recommends and implements procedures and guidelines for handling intake, housing, and care for
- Assists with reviewing and revising shelter forms; supervises the preparation of adopted animals leaving the
- Updates the County's website and/or County sponsored social media sites with current adoption
- Assists staff with more technical questions; assists staff with cleaning, feeding, animal care, medical
- Assists with the development of department policies and procedures; recommends and implements
procedures and guidelines for handling intake, housing, and care for surrendered, stray, or impounded
animals.
- Assists in putting photos and information on the County's website or the County sponsored social media
- Acts as a liaison to ensure quality relationships with all departments, volunteers, and the public; assists with
own animals, or potential adopters in identifying the right pet.
- Maintains accurate paperwork including, but not limited to, medical records, euthanasia records, and data
maintains adequate inventory of animal supplies and animal care equipment; reviews and approves
invoices.
- Fosters a team atmosphere utilizing communication and leadership skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate degree with coursework in animal science, biology, business, or related field.
- One (1) to three (3) years supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some animal handling experience.
- Valid State of Michigan Driver’s license.
- Obtain Euthanasia and Tranquilizer Certifications within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to work standard hours of Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, however cover some evening, weekend,
and holiday shifts if sufficient staffing is not available.
