K-12 Leader Resident (San Antonio)


Your Mission

The role of Leader Resident (LIR) is for motivated school leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset who have the ability to carry out the Compass Rose vision. In this role, you will be part of our second School Leader Residency cohort coming this 2024-2025 school year and will gain leadership experience at both the Elementary and Secondary levels that will, ultimately, prepare you to be a principal with the fastest growing charter school district in Texas.


You will be part of a campus leadership team at a Compass Rose school, working to support teachers, other leaders, students, and families every single day while sharing responsibility for critical school achievement goals. You will be a full-time salaried instructional leader who will receive personalized development and coaching throughout your residency experience in preparation to launch your own Compass Rose School in 1-2 years upon successful performance.

  • School Leader Readiness: Leder Residents will be proficient in specific leader competencies by specific timelines to be considered “ready” for new principalship.

  • Build School Sustainability: New principals stay and grow on their founding campus at least 3 years post-residency.

Your Responsibilities

Instructional LeadershipModel excellent teaching, lead professional development, side by side coach/teach, internalize curricula and analyze data and student work consistentlyAssist in the formulation of campus goals and objectives addressing the needs of students
  • Hold high expectations for self and others
  • Lead instructional team to achieve measurable and ambitious results
  • Lead instructional team to improve their teaching quickly and measurably through daily observations, on-the-spot coaching, data conversations, and effective evaluations
  • Supervise the implementation of Compass Rose curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
  • Review teachers’ weekly lesson plans and provide feedback
  • Synthesize, analyze, and prioritize data and opportunities to develop strategies that achieve quantifiable goals
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve teacher development, student achievement, and manage work-related tasks
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school-wide meetings and functions
  • Engage in summer and year-long district, school, and personal learning and development
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week, providing above and beyond work that supports the success of the school leader and the school as a whole
  • Attend student recruitment initiatives
  • Additional responsibilities may include after-school tutoring, testing coordination, TELPAS oversight, occasional Saturday School, 504/SPED/RTI oversight as assigned by school leader based on the needs of our students

School and Network Improvement
  • Plan, participate, and/or lead professional development sessions for team members
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve and consistently reflect on past actions to guide future decisions
  • Use data-driven approaches frequently and consistently to improve student learning outcomes
  • Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on campus performance objectives

School Culture
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission, core values, and core habits of the school district
  • Help shape and develop a school-wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
  • Coordinate clear and consistent behavior management systems school-wide that recognize positive student behavior and restorative practices
  • Execute on student disciplinary supports and actions as needed; support in the development and implementation of school-wide and individualized behavior plans
  • Support the development of students’ character and sense of community

Community and Family Engagement


  • Communicate students’ progress with student and family
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding, and respect for the communities in which they identify
  • Maintain ongoing family relationships and engage in the necessary conversations to support students’ behavioral abs academic growth

Operations, Fiscal, and Facilities Management
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and sub coverages
  • Plan and lead morning drop offs, afternoon pickups, and recess and lunch monitoring
  • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the registrar on follow-up investigations and calls
  • Work with the Business Clerk to request supplies, textbooks, equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.

People First Management
  • Manage a team of teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Champion and model Compass Rose core values and habits in adult culture
  • Champion and model Compass Rose’s talent philosophies
  • Coach team members to build technical capacity
  • Select, onboard, evaluate, and engage talent in the right roles
  • Coach and develop team members on performance frameworks via 1:1 check-ins and frequent observations and feedback sessions
  • Fully engage in the True North Performance and Development cycle
  • Set clear, rigorous and achievable goals and expectations with each team members
  • Identify supports needed for team members reach success


You have


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • K-12 campus leadership (Assistant Principal and/or Principal Experience)
  • At least 3 years of full-time teaching experience with exceptional results
  • Current School Leader Formal Recommendation
  • Proven track record of coaching K-12 teachers to achieve success
  • Ability to travel throughout the SAT and ATX regions (for programming, residency and development opportunities)
  • Core content knowledge and expertise
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
  • A high level of self-awareness
  • Strong cultural competence


Highly Preferred

  • Master’s Degree


Compensation and Benefits


  • 12-month position with annual salary between $71,000-87,000 plus a $2,000 annual stipend.
  • The salary range represents the low end (new to role) and high end (very experienced) of our salary range for this role. Your salary will depend on factors including but not limited to comparable experiences and performance and leaves room for you to grow.
