Marion County is recruiting for a Juvenile Probation Officer or Juvenile Probation Officer Trainee. The level at which the successful candidates are hired will be determined by the hiring manager.
THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED. CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT IN THIS POSITION, WILL BE BASED ON WHETHER OR NOT GRANT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE.
Wages:
Juvenile Probation Officer Trainee: $26.24 - $35.19 hr.

Juvenile Probation Officer: $28.91 - $38.75 hr.

Juvenile Probation Officer Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs professional juvenile case management and supervision while utilizing evidence-based practices that are supported by research data designed to achieve identified outcomes established by the Juvenile Department. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the general supervision of a Juvenile Program Supervisor, who sets goals, assigns caseload and reviews performance by observation and through reports and conferences.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDSupervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class. However, if selected to be in a lead worker position, acts as lead worker over Juvenile Probation Officer Trainees, student placements, and volunteers. If in a lead worker position, may provide guidance to other Probation Officers.
Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following
  • Meet with youth and families introduce them to the Juvenile Department, explain court processes, and assess the needs, strengths and risk level of clients utilizing department approved tools.
  • Develop, monitor, and update case plans that include evidence-based practices to address the needs, strengths, and risk level of the client. Provide Title IV-E case plans for identified youth.
  • Cognitive restructuring, skill development, emotional regulation and behavior modification interventions that address criminogenic needs are delivered using the EPICS model.
  • Coordinate with the District Attorney's office to process new cases, referrals, violations, and case closures.
  • Create and maintain timely case records, correspondence and documents utilizing approved software and applications.
  • Prepare court orders and present written and verbal case information and dispositional recommendations to the court.
  • Monitor clients for compliance with court ordered conditions. Make regular contact, both face-to-face and by phone, with client, parents, school staff and treatment and program staff. Provide additional case management and interventions for non-compliance.
  • Make referrals to the department, court, OYA, and community programs by completing all necessary documentation.
  • Coordinate victim contact with the Marion County DA's Office to gather restitution information, recommend restitution amounts to the court, and monitor payment of restitution.
  • Participate in staffing regarding clients with local schools and other agencies (YST, resource committee, etc.).
  • Attend, participate and maintain certification for department required trainings (CPR, First Aid, crisis intervention, restraint, handcuffing, transport, and other designated training).
  • Maintain effective, collaborative, and professional working relationships with co-workers, clients, other agencies, and the public.
  • Learn and navigate various software programs and applications with proficiency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oregon's Driver's License and meet county qualifications to drive.
  • Establish and maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Comply with department and county policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Attend staff and other scheduled meetings as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for the Position
Juvenile Probation Officer Trainee RequirementsEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social or behavioral sciences, or a related field; OR
  2. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.
The following are additional requirements for the Juvenile Probation Officer classification:
  1. Two (2) years of paid experience working with high-risk youth; OR
  2. Five (5) years of Juvenile Probation Officer Experience; OR
  3. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position is GRANT FUNDED. Continued employment in this position, will be based on whether or not grant funding is available.
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving re4cord according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Typical Work Schedule: 40 hours/week with varying days and hours, depending upon the needs of the department and program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY
Some knowledge of juvenile development, risk and protective factors, family systems; assessment and intervention techniques with juveniles and families; and the juvenile justice system.
Ability and skill to communicate effectively in written and oral form; conduct interviews of juveniles and families; gather, evaluate and integrate pertinent information for case planning and decision making make recommendations on disposition of cases; act as a liaison in the community; work with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; manage and adapt to changes in work flow, juvenile justice practices, and/or department directives; develop cooperative working relationships with other employees and the public; effectively operate a keyboard, computer and navigate computer software; drive a motor vehicle; physical ability to assist in securing and maintaining custody of resistive juveniles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, full-time employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
