Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is seeking a permanent, full-time Juvenile Parole & Probation Officer (JPPO) to join the Linn County Parole & Probation office in Albany, Oregon. As the next JPPO, you will provide supervision and case management services using developmental and cognitive behavioral model to youth committed to OYA. Case management services support the OYA’s adopted principles of effective intervention and include supervision, court ordered monitoring, assessment of risk/needs, case planning activities, treatment and placement services.

A Day In The Life:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with culturally diverse youth and families.
  • Work with Local Juvenile Departments to serve delinquent youth that require out-of-home placement.
  • Through the MDT process, formulates a case plan based on the overall risk to re-offend and criminogenic and developmental needs of the youth. Ensures the youth and family are engaged in the case planning process.
  • Assists with transition of the case to OYA including scheduling initial placement screening interviews, transportation and court appearances.
  • Primary caseworker for all OYA youth and Department of Corrections (DOC) inmates in OYA physical custody assigned to the JPPO’s caseload.
  • Transports youth to various programs, activities, counseling and medical appointments, employment, and other agencies.
  • Actively helps youth to learn new skills by modeling, coaching and teaching in a structured format.
  • Testifies at court hearings and prepares reports as required for these proceedings.

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid Work: This position is eligible for a flexible remote work schedule, and you will be required to come into the office as needed. Remote work is evaluated periodically to ensure business needs are being met and can be adjusted at any time.

  • Starting Salary Expectations: $5,211 monthly to $5,824 monthly; based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity (should you have significant years of experience performing this work, starting salary may be higher).
  • Position Salary Range: $5,211 to $8,810 monthly Salary.
  • This position receives annual step increases on anniversary date until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
  • Upon PERS eligibility, employees will receive a 6.95% increase to their base salary and will pay the employee 6% contribution to PERS.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, the Behavioral Sciences or a related degree; and two years’ experience guiding or counseling troubled, criminal offender or socially maladjusted clients in a social service or criminal justice setting.

Three years of additional experience may substitute for the education requirement.

Special Qualifications:

  • Driver’s License: Driving/travel is an essential function of the position. You must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish: This position is bilingual and requires duties to be done in both English and Spanish. Job offer will be contingent upon passing test(s) evaluating your proficiency in the bilingual requirements of the position. This position may receive a 5% differential pay based on passing the required language test.

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including co-workers, community partners, vocational and educational providers.
  • Experience with case management, case planning and documentation preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Spanish (Assessed in application materials at the time of interview)
  • Experience transporting youth or other clientele with a secure or non-secure vehicle.
  • Experience driving in adverse weather conditions
  • Excellent Time management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • OYA locations are tobacco free environments.
  • Daily contact with youth in custody and/or families who may exhibit hostile and assaultive behavior.
  • Occasionally works irregular hours and may need to respond to emergency situations.
  • Frequent driving throughout the state, some during inclement weather and some overnight travel may be required.
